London Art Fair

Dal 22 al 26 Gennaio torna presso gli spazi del Business Design Centre una nuova edizione di London Art Fair, la 31ma, con una serie di valide proposte, come la sezione degli Art Project, giunta alla 16 edizione,  con 18 gallerie che riunirà artisti che lavorano su una vasta gamma di mezzi, tra cui arte digitale, video, fotografia, tessuti e pittura.

Ospitata nell'ambito di Art Projects, ci sarà la Screening Room un programma di accompagnamento di video collaborativi e nuove iniziative mediatiche. Playtime, a cura di Pryle Behrman, esplora il crescente mercificazione nella nostra società e come questo invade il nostro tempo libero. 

Ma saranno tante le novità che vi attendono a questa importante fiera d'arte inglese.

Artissima 2018 

Il nuovo anno porta con sè le nuove date dei principali appuntamenti commerciali del sistema arte, vediamo quelli più noti e significativi.

Si inizia con ArteFiera a Bologna, con la nuova gestione di Simone Megenoi, che si svolgerà dal 1 al 4 Febbraio, segue poi il Miart dal 5 al 7 Aprile a Milano Fiera e in autunno ci sarà come sempre Artissima che si svolgerà  a Torino dal 1 al 3 Novembre con diverse rassegne parallele.

Sul piano internazionale non possiamo citare che i diversi progetti di ArtBasel (Hong Kong 29-31 Marzo, Basile,13-16 Giugno e Miami, 5-8 Dicembre) e Frieze che quest’anno presenta la novità di Los Angeles dal 14 al 17 Febbraio, oltre a Frieze/Master London (2-6 Ottobre) e New York (2-5 Maggio).

Sarà dal 16 al 24 Marzo la storica Tefaf a Maastricht e il 3-7 Maggio a New York. Sempre nella Grande Mela la fa da leone poi con Armory Show dal 6 al 10 Marzo.  Considerata fra le più valide, a Parigi la Fiac si svolgerà dal 17 al 20 Ottobre.

Untitled, spiaggia d'arte

Oggi a Miami inizia la grande settimana dell'arte contemporanea, una decine di fiera prenderanno forma, fra le più stimolanti sicuramente Untitled, situata, in un magnifico padiglione temporaneo progettato dallo studio di architettura K/R, sotto la direzione di John Keenen, sulla assolata spiaggia.

Si caratterizza per una selezione molto attenta sugli  artisti emergenti o in sviluppo, con una visione internazionale, particolarmente interessante la sezione progetti che quest'anno offrirà una varietà di opere fra cui quelle di Mauricio Ianes, Guillermo Mora, weR2 e Alejandro Puente.

A corredo dell'evento una serie di incontri e conferenze che si svilupperanno nei divesi giorni di apertura dell'evento.

Assolati d’arte Miami 2014

Art Basel Miami

Ed eccoci alla fine dell’anno, qui la stagione invernale ci porta un cielo grigio e temperature sempre più fredde per cui via tutti al caldo sole delle coste della Florida per un’altra settimana di allegria e tantissima arte.

Design Miami

Come sempre sono tantissimi gli eventi di Art Basel e delle tantissimi fiere che avviano nei primi giorni di dicembre.

Fra le tante, sulla quieta spiaggia assolata, c’è Untitled che si inaugura il 1 Dicembre, poi sarà la volta Design Miami, Scope, Pulse, Ink, Miami Art Fair, Aqua, Select Fair, Contexte ovviamente il 3 l’appuntamento top del vernissage di Art Basel, dove fra i tanti progetti è attesissimo l'allestimento della galleria Galerie Gmurzynska di Zurigo che per i suoi 50 anni di attività ha chiamato il noto regista Baz Luhrmann.

Fra i tanti eventi che avvengono in città altro appuntente mondanissimo l'apertura del nuovo centro culturale Faena Forum, progettato da Rem Koolhaas.

Dopo Frieze e Fiac è la volta di Artissima, a Torino dal 7 al 9 Novembre, che da sempre primeggia nella sezione delle proposte giovanili, vedi la sezione  Present/Future, anche se in questi ultimi anni ha allargato il suo raggio di azione con sezioni molto stimolanti come Back to the Future,  anno la fiera si svolgerà nella sede spettacolare dell’Oval, un padiglione dall’originale taglio architettonico realizzato in occasione dei Giochi Olimpici di Torino 2006 che si è rivelato il contenitore ideale per ospitare un appuntamento di riferimento per l’arte contemporanea internazionale quale Artissima.

La grande novità del 2014 è Per4m, una speciale sezione di Artissima dedicata esclusivamente alla presentazione di lavori performativi.

(OFF)ICIELLE e le Fiac a Parigi

E ora tutti a Parigi per le Fiac, la grande fiera parigina che in questi ultimi anni ha saputo rinnovarsi e crescere con tanta qualità e stimolanti proposte. 

La location, il meraviglioso è già di grande fascino e prestigio, il bell'allestimento e la ricercatezza delle opere fanno il resto, che dopodomani scopriremo al grande vernissage d'apertura. 

La novità di quest'anno è la fiera satellite (OFF)ICIELLE che si svolgerà presso Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design sulla riva della senna.

(OFF)ICIELLE, la foire satellite de la FIAC, se tiendra à Paris, du mercredi 22 au dimanche 26 octobre 2014 aux Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design à Paris. L’avant-première aura lieu mardi 21 octobre.

Cette manifestation accueillera une soixantaine de galeries françaises et étrangères œuvrant dans le champ de l’art contemporain et de la création émergente sur une surface de 3700 m2.

(OFF)ICIELLE explorera de nouveaux territoires en mettant l’accent sur la découverte de galeries, de jeunes artistes, mais aussi la redécouverte d’artistes peu ou pas mis en avant sur la scène artistique internationale. L’évènement proposera des galeries dont la programmation témoigne d’une aptitude particulière à décrypter la création contemporaine, à faire découvrir des talents, qu’ils soient émergents ou non.

Le comité de sélection est composé de commissaires d’exposition et d’acteurs majeurs du monde de l’art reconnus pour l’acuité de leur regard et leurs larges horizons géographiques et esthétiques. Un programme d’œuvres monumentales, de performances, de projections de films d’artistes et de conversations sera présenté conjointement avec la programmation artistique Hors les Murs de la FIAC au Jardin des Tuileries, au Jardin des Plantes & Museum national d’Histoire naturelle, à la Place Vendôme, sur les Berges de Seine et à l’amphithéâtre de l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

La Cité prolonge les promenades publiques de la Seine et prend place dans le contexte urbain en tant qu’espace ouvert, espace de vie, véritable concentré de la création à Paris. Ils ont été mis en œuvre en 1907 pour participer au développement commercial de Paris. Ce sont les premiers docks parisiens modernes.

En 2005, les architectes Jakob+MacFarlane ont été sélectionnés pour la réhabilitation du site. Inspiré par le flux de la Seine, le projet interpelle directement les principes fondateurs de ce prototype de l'architecture rationaliste, révélant et magnifiant la structure existante, celle d'un monument historique aux sources de l'architecture moderne.

Reliant le Grand Palais, les différents sites Hors les Murs de la FIAC et (OFF)ICIELLE, des navettes fluviales circuleront entre l’embarcadère du Pont Alexandre III au pied du Grand Palais et le ponton de La Cité.

Installée aux frontières entre le 5ème et le 13ème arrondissement de Paris, (OFF)ICIELLE mettra en valeur la richesse de son environnement institutionnel et culturel. L’évènement créera des synergies avec les institutions, fondations et collections privées qui l’entourent. En plus du Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle & Jardin des Plantes, (OFF)ICIELLE s’associera avec des institutions telles que la Bibliothèque nationale de France, Bétonsalon - Centre d'art et de recherche, l’Institut du Monde Arabe, le Musée du Cinéma, Cinémathèque française, la maison rouge – Fondation Antoine de Galbert parmi d’autres.

Frieze Live

Oggi vediamo la sezione che amo di più di Frieze, quella dedicata ai progetti artistici, che rendono questa fiera unica e molto stimolante. 

Il curatore di quest'anno è Nicola Lees  che ha scelto gli artisti: Jérôme Bel with Dance Umbrella; Cerith Wyn Evans with ZSL London Zoo; Isabel Lewis with the ICA, London and Liverpool Biennial; Nick Mauss with Northern Ballet; Sophia Al Maria, Jonathan Berger and Tobias Madison.

Come sempre le loro opere saranno inserite nel contesto della fiera, creando un particolare effetto di varietà.

Frieze Projects at Frieze London 2014 will bring together seven new commissions, realised both at the fair and in a number of offsite locations around the city. Curated by Nicola Lees, Frieze Projects is the programme of artist commissions that takes place annually at Frieze London, and this year has a focus on artists whose practices intersect with other disciplines including dance, film and music. Many have been produced in collaboration with institutions across London and the UK, drawing attention to the working relationships that crisscross the cultural fabric of the city.

The artists participating in Frieze Projects at Frieze London 2014 are: Jérôme Bel with Dance Umbrella; Cerith Wyn Evans with ZSL London Zoo; Isabel Lewis with the ICA, London and Liverpool Biennial; Nick Mauss with Northern Ballet; Sophia Al Maria, Jonathan Berger and Tobias Madison.

At the fair, Nick Mauss will create a ‘living stage’ on which a new ballet will be performed each day. His first major dance work will be produced with Northern Ballet, with text and music performed live by Kim Gordon and Juliana Huxtable. Jonathan Berger will reassemble fragments from Andy Kaufman’s personal life and career, and restage a forgotten piece of music from Kaufman’s variety show at Carnegie Hall. Tobias Madison will con- struct an experiential environment in which visitors’ movements will be translated into light, while Sophia Al Maria carves out subliminal routes across the fair, pointing to potential conspiracies.

Offsite from the fair, Cerith Wyn Evans will locate a new work and per- formance in the heart of ZSL London Zoo. Isabel Lewis will host a series of ‘occasions’ throughout London, including one at the Old Selfridges Hotel, that play with the accepted behaviours between host and guest. In partner- ship with Dance Umbrella, Frieze Projects will bring Jérôme Bel’s acclaimed Disabled Theatre to London for the first time.

Nicola Lees said: ‘Frieze London continues to provide an exciting context for the commissioning of works that engage with the live dynamics of the fair. Dance and choreography have emerged as significant threads running though this year’s Projects programme, with artists exploring the dynamics between on-stage/back-stage, and the processes of rehearsal. Projects range from Jérôme Bel’s Disabled Theatre, a direct translation of the rehearsal en- vironment, to Nick Mauss’ ballet, described by collaborator Kim Gordon as “an ongoing rehearsal” for an unfinished work; and Cerith Wyn Evans has completely transported his stage to the Zoo. I am pleased that we’ve been able to collaborate with a diverse group of institutional partners to realise this year’s projects, and that the focus on performance will be further articulated through Frieze London’s first “Live” section of galleries.’

New to the fair in 2014 is the inaugural Frieze Artist Award, established to enable an emerging artist to present a site-specific work at Frieze London. The winner of this year’s award is Mélanie Matranga. This year’s fair also introduces ‘Live’, a new section of galleries in the fair dedicated to performance-based installations, selected by Nicola Lees.

Frieze Projects presents newly commissioned artworks by international art- ists, and gives an opportunity to realize ambitious ideas in an exceptional environment.

Frieze London takes place from the 15–18 October 2014. In 2014, Frieze London is sponsored by Deutsche Bank for the eleventh consecutive year.

‘Live’ is a new initiative at Frieze London 2014 that will provide a platform for ambitious, active or performance-based installations. Demonstrating Frieze’s commitment to placing the most experimental art practice at the heart of the fair, ‘Live’ 2014 will feature six selected galleries who will show works specially conceived for Frieze alongside the restaging of a number of significant historical pieces. These works will be integrated with the archi- tecture of Frieze London; staged both on gallery stands and in public spaces throughout the fair. ‘Live’ is supported by Alexander McQueen, the Associate Sponsor of Frieze London for the second consecutive year.

The six artists and galleries selected for ‘Live’ 2014 are: Robert Breer (gb agency, Paris); Franz Erhard Walther (Galerie Jocelyn Wolff, Paris); Tamara Henderson (Rodeo, Istanbul); Adam Linder (Silberkuppe, Berlin); Shan- zhai Biennial (Project Native Informant, London); UNITED BROTHERS (Green Tea Gallery, Iwaki).

Following a major retrospective at WIELS, Brussels earlier this year, Franz Erhard Walther will present two early works, Sehkanal (1. Werksatz no. 46)(1968) and_ Winkel_ (1975). A pioneer of action-sculpture since the late 1960s, Walther will invite visitors to animate these quasi-objects through a series of instructions. The restaging of Robert Breer’s self-propelled Floats will bring to life a piece originally created for Experiments in Art and Technology at the 1970 World’s Fair in Osaka, the slow motion of which gives viewers the disarming sensation that they themselves are moving whilst actually remaining motionless.

Of the works specially conceived for the fair, artist collective and ‘international brand’ Shanzhai Biennial will reconceive Frieze as a lifestyle brand, with products available for purchase. UNITED BROTHERS will present a dilemma to visitors, by offering soup cooked by their mother using vegetables grown in Fukushima. Adam Linder will demonstrate his_ Choreographic Service No. 2 _which is available for hire by the hour; and Tamara Henderson’s installation will enforce relaxation by constructing an environment inspired by the idea of ‘vacationing’.



Joanna Stella-Sawicka said: ‘Live is a major new initiative that shows Frieze’s commitment to featuring the most ambitious and experimental art being made today. We’ve always helped galleries to realise works that capture visitors’ imaginations and allow people to participate. With Live we will be integrating an important part of Frieze’s history into the fabric of the fair, seeing where galleries are breaking new ground and supporting them in that venture.’

The selection for ‘Live’ is advised by curator Nicola Lees and will sit alongside the Frieze Projects programme, providing an alternative model to the other gallery sections at Frieze London. The artists and galleries taking part in ‘Live’ benefit from no rental fee for the space.

INSPIRATION AND PARTICIPATION

Today more than ever, Vienna is a center of social and cultural exchange. As a historical bridge between the Western hemisphere and the Eastern and Southeastern regions of Europe, Vienna is a place of cultural mediation. Cultural scenes of the West and especially in the European Union have come to value Vienna as an inspiring cultural capital in Central Europe.

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary has played a vital role in firmly anchoring Austrian galleries and the city of Vienna in the international art market by stimulating exchange between different art scenes and attracting more and more art collectors.

The almost comprehensive participation of the Austrian gallery scene in VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is a clear reflection of this international scope. The list ranges from the editions specialist Artelier Contemporary (Graz) to renowned Viennese galleries such as Kerstin Engholm, Ernst Hilger, Georg Kargl Fine Arts, Christine König Galerie, Galerie Krinzinger, Galerie Knoll, Meyer Kainer, and Galerie nächst St. Stephan – Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, and reaches west to Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art (Salzburg/Vienna), Galerie Nikolaus Ruzicska (Salzburg), and Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman (Innsbruck/Vienna). Younger generations are also represented with Viktor Bucher, Andreas Huber, Emanuel Layr, and Michaela Stock.

Among the international galleries Germany once again tops the ranks with the most participants, including Berlin-based galleries AANDO FINE ART, Crone, Volker Diehl, KOW, Michael Schultz, and ŻAK | BRANICKA as well as Andreas Binder and MaxWeberSixFriedrich from Munich. Carbon12 from the United Arab Emirates, The Agency (Great Britain), Taik Persons (Finland), Galerie Geukens & De Vil and Guy Pieters Gallery (Belgium), Flatland Gallery from the Netherlands, Shirin Gallery (Iran) & Mark Hachem Gallery (France/Lebanon), Steve Turner (USA), and H.A.N. from South Korea are other international participants.

The majority of the Eastern European participants comes from Romania, the focus country of the OMV sponsored project DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES. Russian galleries include, among others, Regina Gallery, Gallery Marina Gisich, and Triumph Gallery. Hungary is represented with six galleries, among them Kisterem, acb Galeria, and Ani Molnár. Coming from Poland are Czułość, last year’s winner of the Emerging Gallery Prize from Vienna Chamber of Commerce, the longstanding participant lokal_30, and the young Monopol Gallery. Drdova Gallery and SVIT (Czech Republic), Temnikova & Kasela (Estonia), Alma from Latvia, Vartai from Lithuania, and Galerija Skuc (Slovenia) round out the list of Eastern European galleries.

This year Austrian and international cultural institutions will once again present their programs at VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary. Art Collect, (Vienna), mumok Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, and Red Carpet Art Award (Vienna). Germany: Kunstmeile Hamburg. Russia: Jewish Museum And Tolerance Center (Moscow), National Centre for Contemporary Arts (Moscow), and Voronezh Center For Contemporary Art (Voronezh).

Special exhibitions with young international art and art institutions from Austria and Eastern Europe

OMV Special Project: DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES

Already since 2011 OMV has supported special presentations at VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary. In the context of the OMV Special Project DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES this year the spotlight is placed on more than 30 exciting artistic positions in contemporary art from Romania presented by five galleries – Anaid Art Gallery, Anca Poterasu Gallery, Jecza Gallery, Galeria Plan B, und Zorzini Gallery – and two non-profit spaces: ATELIER 030202 and ALERT studio.

Romanian contemporary art is considered a special phenomenon and has attracted great attention from the public in the last years. The renowned art expert Andreiana Mihail will curate DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES. Romania’s cultural-historic development in the last 50 years forms the heart of the presentation. For the first time a curatorial concept will be realized, which elucidates Romania’s most important contemporary art communities in an enlightening chronicle. The project includes classical positions of artists, who are considered as emerging due to the lack of exhibition venues during Communism, and young artists who tell their own personal stories beyond sociopolitical perspectives. The aim of DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES is to present the two, perhaps most significant existential attitudes in recent Romanian history – adapting and assuming – in a balanced relationship between a clear curatorial line and a commercial framework.

OMV would like to contribute to cultural dialogue in the field of contemporary fine arts with DIALOG: NEW ENERGIES. In addition to Austria and Turkey, Romania counts among the integrated international oil and gas company’s core markets. For ten years OMV has been the majority shareholder of OMV Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South Eastern Europe with headquarters in Bucharest.

ZONE1 showcases exciting solo presentations

This October ZONE1 again offers a unique opportunity to discover the work of emerging artists. The Austrian Federal Chancellery again supports participating artists from Austria in this framework. VIENNA Focus

With the special exhibition VIENNA Focus VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary augments its review of Southeastern Europe with a presentation of art institutions and artistic positions from Azerbaijan. Acting as a partner in this initiative is the YARAT Foundation, founded in 2011 by Aida Mahmudova, an organization that plays a leading role in promoting an understanding of contemporary art in Azerbaijan. To this end YARAT stimulates a dialogue between local and international networks as well as art institutions, galleries, and museums.

VIENNA Talks – the platform for art collectors

This year VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary will dedicate special attention to young art collectors. Already in a number of international meetings in the run-up to the fair first networks have been established, which will be presented at “Young Collectors Talk”. With this initiative VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary opens up new paths for the participating galleries to a young and enthusiastic community of collectors.

Following the great success in 2013, this year the collectors’ forum “20 four 7 – Collecting the New Contemporary” will again provide insights into the collection strategies and passions of major international art collectors. Parallel to VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary, there is also a daily discussion program that expands upon the themes of the special presentations and presents prospects on international developments in the art world. Art enthusiasts can deepen their knowledge about contemporary art movements and learn more about new artistic practices and positions.

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary offers a network for curators

In the effort to strengthen relations with the Viennese gallery scene, departure – The Creative Agency of the City of Vienna presents the project “curated by_vienna 2014” at their own booth at VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary. Furthermore, the art fair stimulates interaction between galleries and international curators with the newly introduced section REFLECTIONS. Galleries are invited to develop special presentations together with curators and to showcase these – also at special conditions – at VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary.

Three prizes this year for the best booth design! 

For the ninth time Vienna Chamber of Commerce supports the art and gallery scene in Vienna through its cooperation with VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary. The new president of Vienna Chamber of Commerce DI Walter Ruck has decided to continue the already well-positioned Emerging and Established Gallery Prize for young and established galleries – each endowed with 5000 EUR prize money. In 2014 the prize will solely be awarded to Viennese galleries with the aim of honoring the performance of local galleries, who are member operations of Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, an International Gallery Prize will be presented to the amount of 5000 EUR, which is open to both Austrian galleries and galleries from other participating countries.

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary – active participation for all those interested in art

Besides the programs for representatives from the art industry, artists, and art collectors, VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary presents itself as an art fair that aims for an accessible and stimulating approach to contemporary art.

An intergenerational dialogue about contemporary art will take place in the framework of VIENNA Gold. Parallel to the solo presentations in ZONE1, different generations – young Austrian artists and seniors – will meet at VIENNA Gold for discussions and exchange about their views on contemporary art. Guided tours with the artists are offered daily (October 2, 3, 4, and 5 at 2:00 pm).

This year VIENNA Studio again offers students the opportunity to explore the fair in guided tours – free entrance every day from 3:00 pm on!

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary offers art education for art enthusiasts from all age groups. In the framework of VIENNA Family, adults and children, two years old and above, have the opportunity to discover their creativity and to try out different painting techniques and tools to put color, form, and movement to paper in an open painting studio (on the weekend October 4 & 5, from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm at the VIENNA Family booth).
