Oggi vediamo la sezione che amo di più di Frieze, quella dedicata ai progetti artistici, che rendono questa fiera unica e molto stimolante. 

Il curatore di quest'anno è Nicola Lees  che ha scelto gli artisti: Jérôme Bel with Dance Umbrella; Cerith Wyn Evans with ZSL London Zoo; Isabel Lewis with the ICA, London and Liverpool Biennial; Nick Mauss with Northern Ballet; Sophia Al Maria, Jonathan Berger and Tobias Madison.

Come sempre le loro opere saranno inserite nel contesto della fiera, creando un particolare effetto di varietà.

Frieze Projects at Frieze London 2014 will bring together seven new commissions, realised both at the fair and in a number of offsite locations around the city. Curated by Nicola Lees, Frieze Projects is the programme of artist commissions that takes place annually at Frieze London, and this year has a focus on artists whose practices intersect with other disciplines including dance, film and music. Many have been produced in collaboration with institutions across London and the UK, drawing attention to the working relationships that crisscross the cultural fabric of the city.

The artists participating in Frieze Projects at Frieze London 2014 are: Jérôme Bel with Dance Umbrella; Cerith Wyn Evans with ZSL London Zoo; Isabel Lewis with the ICA, London and Liverpool Biennial; Nick Mauss with Northern Ballet; Sophia Al Maria, Jonathan Berger and Tobias Madison.

At the fair, Nick Mauss will create a ‘living stage’ on which a new ballet will be performed each day. His first major dance work will be produced with Northern Ballet, with text and music performed live by Kim Gordon and Juliana Huxtable. Jonathan Berger will reassemble fragments from Andy Kaufman’s personal life and career, and restage a forgotten piece of music from Kaufman’s variety show at Carnegie Hall. Tobias Madison will con- struct an experiential environment in which visitors’ movements will be translated into light, while Sophia Al Maria carves out subliminal routes across the fair, pointing to potential conspiracies.

Offsite from the fair, Cerith Wyn Evans will locate a new work and per- formance in the heart of ZSL London Zoo. Isabel Lewis will host a series of ‘occasions’ throughout London, including one at the Old Selfridges Hotel, that play with the accepted behaviours between host and guest. In partner- ship with Dance Umbrella, Frieze Projects will bring Jérôme Bel’s acclaimed Disabled Theatre to London for the first time.

Nicola Lees said: ‘Frieze London continues to provide an exciting context for the commissioning of works that engage with the live dynamics of the fair. Dance and choreography have emerged as significant threads running though this year’s Projects programme, with artists exploring the dynamics between on-stage/back-stage, and the processes of rehearsal. Projects range from Jérôme Bel’s Disabled Theatre, a direct translation of the rehearsal en- vironment, to Nick Mauss’ ballet, described by collaborator Kim Gordon as “an ongoing rehearsal” for an unfinished work; and Cerith Wyn Evans has completely transported his stage to the Zoo. I am pleased that we’ve been able to collaborate with a diverse group of institutional partners to realise this year’s projects, and that the focus on performance will be further articulated through Frieze London’s first “Live” section of galleries.’

New to the fair in 2014 is the inaugural Frieze Artist Award, established to enable an emerging artist to present a site-specific work at Frieze London. The winner of this year’s award is Mélanie Matranga. This year’s fair also introduces ‘Live’, a new section of galleries in the fair dedicated to performance-based installations, selected by Nicola Lees.

Frieze Projects presents newly commissioned artworks by international art- ists, and gives an opportunity to realize ambitious ideas in an exceptional environment.

Frieze London takes place from the 15–18 October 2014. In 2014, Frieze London is sponsored by Deutsche Bank for the eleventh consecutive year.

Eccovi una breve carrellata di proposte galleristiche in questi giorni qui a Londra

Parasol Unit presenta la prima importante analisi sull'artista britannico Siah Armajani, ripercorrendo le opere di Armajani su carta dal 1950 ad oggi giorno dedicate alle commissioni di scultura pubblica.

Pochi giorni, fino al 20/10, per vedere il film di Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones ispirato a Rodin dal titolo Erebus presentato da Londonewcastle Project Space.

Un'altra occasione di contemporaneità la offre Edge of Arabia, presso la Ayyam Gallery con i lavori di Abdulnasser Gharem, fra i più promettenti artisti sauditi. 

La realtà virtuale sempre più vera.. - Dal fisico all’immateriale, il cambiamento dell’osservatore.

Lentamente il mondo del web entra nel nostro quotidiano e sempre di più diventa realtà “vera” con cui agire e vivere. 

Come il mondo reale quello immateriale offre di tutto, per chi come noi ama l’arte sicuramente è una grande opportunità per conoscerla e confrontarsi, formarsi. 

Un’occasione importante è il crescere del materiale informativo e archivistico che direttamente può essere accessibile. Finalmente chi ama l’arte può usare questa biblioteca visiva e trovare centinaia di immagini, poterne fruire immediatamente anche se queste sono poste lontano e irraggiungibili. Non sarà come vederle dal vivo ma sicuramente tamponerà un’esigenza. 

Fra le tante iniziative ho già scritto di Google Art Project che senza troppo rumore continua a crescere. Si tratta sicuramente di un’iniziativa stupenda e visto il successo sicuramente utile. Questo incredibile “museo virtuale” raccogli ora oltre 30.000 opere provenienti da 150 musei sparsi in 40 nazioni, tutte visibili con un grado di risoluzione perfetto, che forse nemmeno dal vero è possibile vedere così “vicino”. 

Alle opere vere e proprie ora si stanno aggiungendo luoghi e un approccio dinamico, quasi “reale” di visita. Fra le ultime acquisizioni ci sono stai i Musei Capitolini, la National Gallery of Modern Art di Delhi e la Casa Bianca. 

Del museo romano saranno visibile alcune delle opere più importanti come la sala degli Orazi e Curiazi, vedere a 360° la statua del Marc’Aurelio, la Lupa capitolina, lo Spinario, la Venere Esquilina, il busto di Medusa e tantissime altre opere presenti nello storico spazio. 

A queste funzioni di visita sono poi collegati attraverso Google+ una serie di servizi che possono creare al singolo utente collezioni e approfondimenti, un’occasione che fino a pochi anni fa pareva impossibile.

Dalle mappe del mondo alle mappe pittoriche - Google art project

Dopo aver mappato il mondo ora è la volta della superficie pittorica di alcuni quadri presenti nei più bei musei del mondo. L’elenco è sicuramente il meglio delle raccolte mondiali; dall’ Alte Nationalgalerie di Berlino, passando per la Tate Britain di Londra, The Frick Collection di New York, Museum Kampa di Praga, Hermitage Museum di San Pietroburgo, Free Gallery of Art Smithsonian di Washington, fino agli Uffizi di Firenze.

Così ci sono ben 1061 immagini di opere d’arte provenienti da 17 musei di ben 11 città di nove paesi. Immagini in gigapixels che permettono di poter vedere un quadro da vicino come mai si potrebbe fare anche dal vero, visto i sistemi di sicurezza protettivi.

Che dire, fantastico, quando mai una persona può vedere così da vicino una superficie pittorica?

Ho fatto un giro e sono rimasto entusiasta, ovvio che dal vero le proporzioni e i colori sono sicuramente più affascinanti, ma questa nuova iniziativa di Google non può che essere considerata come un grande regalo a tutti gli appassionati dell’arte.
