Pensando a Art Basel Miami Beach

CS

Art Basel  unveils further highlights for its 2024 edition, including full details of its expanded city-wide program featuring Parcours, the Merian, Film, Conversations, and the Messeplatz project

  • Parcours, curated for the first time by Stefanie Hessler, Director of Swiss Institute (SI) in New York, will showcase more than 20 site-specific public art installations along Clarastrasse, which connects the fairgrounds to the Rhine.
  • The Messeplatz will host a major work by conceptual artist Agnes Denes, curated by Samuel Leuenberger, Founder of SALTS.
  • Unlimited, curated by Giovanni Carmine, Director of Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, will present 70 large-scale installations by distinguished and emerging artists.
  • Kabinett, Art Basel’s sector for thematic presentations within galleries’ main booths, will showcase 22 projects presented by 23 galleries.
  • Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Conversations, curated for the first time by Kimberly Bradley, will bring together over 25 thought leaders across 11 panels, focusing on the issues shaping contemporary culture.
  • Presenting a week of extraordinary cinema and celebrating its 25th edition, the Film program, curated by Filipa Ramos, will feature artists’ surveys, feature films, and a special program for young audiences, from age four onwards.
  • Art Basel, whose Global Lead Partner is UBS, will take place at Messe Basel from June 13 to 16, 2024, with Preview Days on June 11 and 12.

The 2024 edition of Art Basel in Basel will feature 285 of the world’s leading galleries, showcasing the highest quality of works across all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and digital artworks. 22 first-time participants will join a robust lineup of European exhibitors and returning galleries from around the globe.

In addition to remarkable presentations in its Galleries, Feature, Statements, and Edition sectors, around 70 large-scale installations and performances will be on view in the show’s Unlimited sector, while the Kabinett sector will return for the second time to Art Basel’s Swiss edition to spotlight distinct, curated exhibitions within the main booths of exhibitors.

This year’s show will also present an expanded city-wide program, which will include Agnes Denes’ seminal land art work Honouring Wheatfield - A Confrontation (2024) on the Messeplatz, curated by Samuel Leuenberger. The reconceptualized Parcours sector, curated for the first time by Stefanie Hessler, will unfold along Clarastrasse up to the Middle Bridge, where Art Basel will activate the Merian to provide audiences with a stimulating venue for around-the-clock artistic events and showcases. Free to the public, Art Basel’s Conversations series, curated for the first time by Kimberly Bradley, will focus on ways to build and shape the art world’s future, while the Film program, curated by Filipa Ramos, will showcase a unique lineup of surveys, feature films, and a special program for young audiences from age four onwards.

Maike Cruse, Director of Art Basel in Basel, said: ‘I am particularly excited about this year’s expanded city-wide program as a testament to Basel’s cultural pulse. The Messeplatz project, featuring Agnes Denes’ transformative installation Honouring Wheatfield - A Confrontation (2024), redefines the dialogue between environment, land art, and the value of things. Our Parcours sector transforms the Clarastrasse into an exhibition exploring the topics of circulation and transformation. And the Merian will not only showcase Petrit Halilaj’s installation on the façade but will also extend Art Basel’s activation into the evening and night. Join us to celebrate community and the limitless possibilities of artistic expression along the Rhine.’

Unlimited

Art Basel’s unique sector for large-scale projects, Unlimited provides exhibitors the opportunity to present monumental installations, colossal sculptures, boundless wall paintings, comprehensive photo series, and expansive video projections. Unlimited will be curated for the fourth time by Giovanni Carmine, Director of Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.

Parcours

Curated for the first time by Stefanie Hessler, Director of Swiss Institute (SI) in New York, Art Basel’s public art sector will unfold along Clarastrasse up to the Middle Bridge, connecting the fairgrounds with the Rhine. Hessler’s concept for Parcours is a curated exhibition that meanders through empty stores and operational shops, a hotel, a restaurant, a brewery, and other quotidian spaces on Basel’s Clarastrasse. Through ambitious projects, many of them site-specific and newly produced, the sector explores transformation and circulation in areas such as trade, globalization, and ecology. Hessler takes over Parcours from Samuel Leuenberger, who successfully managed and expanded the sector over the past eight years.

Highlights from Parcours include:

  • An architectural structure lined with paintings that houses produce on sale at the Tropical Zone store by London-based artist Alvaro Barrington, presented by Sadie Coles HQ, Thaddaeus Ropac, and Massimodecarlo
  • An installation combining traditional Chinese shadow play and digital animation by Swedish artist Lap-See Lam, unfolding in a food court, and presented by Galerie Nordenhake
  • A portable garden by Austrian artist Lois Weinberger, transposing nature into an urban context with the aim to attract insects and birds, presented by Galerie Krinzinger
  • A performance by London-based artist Mandy El-Sayegh interrogating the circulation of information and goods inside a partially vacant shopping mall, presented by Thaddaeus Ropac and Lehmann Maupin
  • A series of pirate flags by Rirkrit Tiravanija, lining the Middle Bridge crossing the Rhine, presented by neugerriemschneider
  • Peruvian artist Ximena Garrido-Lecca’s Conversion systems contraposing ancestral techniques and artisanal materials with industrial applications in petrol extraction, installed inside a brewery, presented by Galerie Gisela Capitain

Newly the Parcours Night will be hosted on Wedneday, June 12, from 8 to 11pm, offering a festive night filled with live performances and other acts along Clarastrasse and at the Merian. All Parcours locations will have extended opening hours to provide visitors a unique experience. For the full list of artists and galleries featured and further information, visit artbasel.com/basel/parcours.

Messeplatz

The city’s Messeplatz will feature a site-specific presentation by conceptual artist Agnes Denes, curated for the third time by Samuel Leuenberger, founder of the non-profit exhibition spaces SALTS in Birsfelden and Bennwil. Denes’ artistic practice is distinctive in terms of its aesthetics and engagement with socio-political ideas. As a pioneer of environmental, ecological, and land art, she will present the piece Honouring Wheatfield - A Confrontation (2024), referring to her iconic land art work from the 1980s. The work will remain on the Messeplatz throughout the summer until its harvest. Born in 1931 in Budapest, Hungary, raised in Sweden, and educated in the United States, Agnes Denes today lives in New York City.

The Merian

The Merian, situated right at the Middle Bridge along the Rhine in Kleinbasel and across Basel’s Old Town, features a hotel bar, restaurant, and terrace that will host a continuous, around-the-clock program. The façade of the former Hotel Merian will be taken over by When The Sun Goes Away We Paint The Sky, an artwork by Petrit Halilaj symbolizing guidance and commemorating the 30th anniversary of the partnership between UBS and Art Basel. Evenings will be curated and enlivened by various members of the global and local arts community including Jenny Schlenzka, Director of Gropius Bau Berlin; Aindrea Emelife, Curator Modern and Contemporary at the Museum of West African Art in Benin City, Nigeria; Pati Hertling, Director of Performance Space New York; Stefanie Hessler, Director of Swiss Institute New York; Benedikt Wyss, Curator of SALTS and Finally Saturday in Basel; and others.

Film

For its 25th edition, the Film program will present a week of extraordinary artists’ cinema projects. Film is curated by Filipa Ramos, founding curator of the online video platform Vdrome and lecturer at the Arts Institute of the FHNW in Basel, in collaboration with Marian Masone, a New York-based independent curator. This year’s program will address topics such as ecology, intimacy, history, and politics in a series of short film programs, surveys, and feature films.

The program starts on Wednesday, June 12 with ‘The Political Life of Plants’, a series of short films by Nefeli Chrysa Avgeris, Zheng Bo, Ulla von Brandenburg, Kyriaki Goni, and Tiffany Sia. Inspired by the title of two films by Bo, the program looks at how the vegetal world has been a major figure in recent artists’ cinema. On Saturday, June 15, ‘Bats and Rockets’ will celebrate artists’ films for young audiences, from age four onwards. This year’s film program will then conclude with Taking Venice (2023), a documentary about Robert Rauschenberg’s participation in the 1964 Venice Biennale by Amei Wallach.

For further information, please visit artbasel.com/basel/film.

Conversations

Art Basel’s flagship talks program returns for its 20th anniversary edition with an exciting lineup, curated for the first time by Berlin-based art critic Kimberly Bradley. Bringing together more than 25 thought leaders, the 2024 edition features 11 focused panels, all relating to the pressing issue of how to build and shape contemporary culture’s future. The discussions will explore the art trade’s challenges and opportunities in a super election year, the potentials of increased interdisciplinarity in museums, how artists relate to politics in a time of global crisis, and the ways digital technologies are recasting art’s social and economic ecosystems. Conversations is free and accessible to all.

Highlights from this year’s Conversations series include:

  • Launching the program with a special celebration of 20 years of Conversations, Hans Ulrich Obrist will speculate on worldbuilding and revisit the notion of utopia with pioneering digital artists Rebecca Allen and Danielle Braithwaite Shirley, as well as architect Carlo Ratti.
  • Ahead of her Hyundai Commission at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, artist Mire Lee reflects on her practice – which references the art-historical lineage of kinetic sculpture – in the Premiere Artist Talk.
  • Ben Davis, Artnet News’ Editor-at-Large, will discuss how technology is blurring the lines of art’s communities and art’s valuation with artist Cecile B. Evans.
  • Legal experts Katalin Andreides and Till Vere-Hodge, along with UBS’s Paul Donovan, will debate the ways potential political and legal reorientations in an election year could change how art is bought, sold, and distributed, in a talk moderated by Georgina Adam.
  • The talks will conclude on a light note, with Basel-based artist Sophie Jung and curator/critic Francesco Bonami discussing the multiple roles humor and satire play in contemporary art.
  • During the show’s final weekend, a curated series of videos of Conversations’ most notable debates, spanning nearly two decades, will be on view in the Conversations auditorium.

Conversations will take place from June 13 to 16 at the Auditorium in Hall 1. The series is free to attend. For further information, visit artbasel.com/stories/conversations.

Kabinett

The sector dedicated to curated and thematic presentations featured in a separate section within galleries’ main booths, Kabinett will present 22 projects by 23 galleries for the second year.

Highlights from Kabinett include:

  • Air de Paris’ presentation of works by American artist Sarah Pucci and her daughter Dorothy Iannone. The presentation aims to shed light on Pucci’s mesmerizing objects by contextualizing them within the loving relationship with her daughter.
  • Croy Nielsen’s presentation of paintings by German Japanese artist Ernst Yohji Jaeger, addressing intimacy and emotion with a moody palette and mysterious subject matter
  • Experimenter’s presentation of Indian artist Kanishka Raja’s Switzerland for Movie Stars (2014), which plots a speculative Google map journey from Srinagar to Geneva through a panoramic panel painting and an accompanying brochure
  • Catriona Jeffries’ presentation of paintings by Canadian painter Elizabeth McIntosh, which respond to the ever-shifting workflows of contemporary industrialization
  • Sies + Höke’s presentation of works by German artist Gerhard Richter, including mirror pieces of various tints and dimensions as well as Richter’s quintessential stainless-steel spheres.

Art Basel and BMW are delighted to present the next artist shortlist and to continue their joint initiative to recognize and support emerging artists from across the world. The BMW Art Journey can take artists almost anywhere in the world to develop new ideas and envision new creative projects. Today, an international expert jury announced Ali Kazim, Zac Langdon-Pole and Gala Porras-Kim as the shortlisted artists showing in Discoveries, the sector for emerging artists at Art Basel's show in Hong Kong.

Ali Kazim at Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai
Ali Kazim (b. 1979) lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan. He received his Master of Fine Arts from the Slade School of Fine Art, London. Ali Kazim forms multi-layered compositions to create uniquely textured paintings that include elements of narrative andfantasy. He works meticulously in watercolor and graphite, using techniques acquired from studying the watercolor wash and miniature painting techniques of the Bengal andMughal schools. At this year’s Art Basel show in Hong Kong, the artist presents an immersive installation that draws a primary inspiration from the landscape around his hometown of Lahore. Kazim will participate in the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, opening in November 2018 in Brisbane.

Zac Langdon-Pole at Michael Lett, Auckland
Zac Langdon-Pole (b. 1988) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He studied at ElamSchool of Fine Arts, Auckland and at the Städelschule, Frankfurt. In his work he uses Paper Nautilus Shells, fragile egg-case-shells, made by the genus of Octopedes known as Argonauts, and unique fragments of Meteorite handcrafted to fill the shell’s aperture. At this year’s edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong, Langdon-Pole is presenting an installation of new sculptures that form a poetic exploration of identity and belonging. In 2017, he was awarded for the Ars Viva Prize for young artists living in Germany. Recent exhibitions include Between Bridges, Berlin, Ars Viva 2018, Berlin, S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent and Kunstverein München, Munich.

Gala Porras-Kim at Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles
Gala Porras-Kim (b.1984) lives and works in Los Angeles, United States. She received a Master of Fine Arts from California Institute of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from University of California, Los Angeles. Her work questions the social and political contexts that influence the manifestation and interpretation of language and history. Her artistic approach comes from a research-based practice that aims to reconsider how intangible subjects have been represented in the fields of linguistics, history, and conservation. At this year's Art Basel show in Hong Kong she is presenting a group of artifacts that reconstruct and reimagine ambiguous historical fragments from various ethnographic institutions. Her work was displayed at solo exhibitions at Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles and LABOR, Mexico City. Recently she has been included in group exhibitions at Seoul Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
The three artists are now invited to submit a proposal for their very own personal journey, with the winner to be announced in early summer 2018.

Yao, Curator, Visual Art M+, Hong Kong.

'As jury, we were impressed by the variety and quantity of works and made a unanimous decision about the three shortlisted artists. In this year’s edition of BMW Art Journey at Art Basel in Hong Kong, the jurors noticed a wide search for narrative with a mostly consistent search for fact. Within the BMW Art Journey this time the number of eligible galleries was by far the greatest, representing artists of the most diverse backgrounds.

We admired Ali Kazim’s meditative approach to the desolate landscape of Pakistan, and found his labor-intensive process combining miniature painting techniques with a contemporary sensibility to be layered and haunting. Zac Langdon-Pole’s work ‘Passport (Argonauta)’ creates a poetical and surprising combination of materials. Proposing a new notion of the passport, the nautilus shell and meteorites from different parts of the world suggesting a metaphysical and timeless idea of identities. We appreciated Gala PorrasKim’s investigation into and imagination of ways in which objects within institutional collections undergo reinterpretation via changing social and physical contexts. She touches on the subjectivity of history and the endless possibilities of making meaning of fragments and traces', states the jury. In collaboration with the winning artist, the journey will be documented and shared with the public through publications, online and social media.

During this year’s Art Basel show in Hong Kong, the 2017 winner of the BMW Art Journey from the Discoveries sector, Astha Butail (represented by GALLERYSKE, New Dehli, Bangalore) presents some first insights into her upcoming project 'In the Absence of Writing' at the BMW Lounge. Throughout her journey, the artist will visit Yazd (Iran), Jerusalem (Israel), London (United Kingdom), Varanasi, Pune, New Delhi and Mumbai (India) to discover memories and living traditions that are passed down through teaching and oral poetry. For the BMW Art Journey, Butail plans to investigate the Zoroastrian Avesta, Jewish Oral Torah and Indian Veda traditions by observing and recording their different memory techniques and interviewing scholars and practitioners of each tradition.

The latest edition in the BMW Art Journey book series is also presented at the fair giving insights about Abigail Reynolds’s BMW Art Journey 'The Ruins of Time: Lost Libraries of the Silk Road'. Images, texts and other documents originating from her experience are included in the book – thus completing a journey that both starts and ends with the institution of the library. BMW is a global partner of Art Basel and has supported Art Basel’s three shows in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong for many years. For further information, please visit bmw-art-journey.com.

Lara Almarcegui, Isabel Lewis and Recetas Urbanas to collaborate on a public project for Basel's Messeplatz, presented by Creative Time and commissioned by Art Basel Conceived by artists Lara Almarcegui, Isabel Lewis and Santiago Cirugeda-led architecture studio Recetas Urbanas, ‘Basilea’ encourages reflection on a city’s possibilities through a series of immersive projects connecting the city of Basel, its residents, and the over 90,000 visitors who attend Art Basel annually. A Creative Time project commissioned by Art Basel, ‘Basilea’ will open to the public on May 23, 2018, culminating the week of Art Basel. The project marks Creative Time’s first international public commission and the first collaboration between the artists. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will take place at Messe Basel from June 14 to June 17, 2018.

‘Basilea’ is Elvira Dyangani Ose’s first project as Senior Curator at Creative Time. The project aims to create awareness of the capacity we, as citizens, have to alter and reappropriate an urban environment, at both individual and collective levels. It will encourage discussions about the self-governance and the use and ownership of public space. The project includes a collectively built structure, a large-scale installation, a series of workshops, events and hosted occasions.

In the three weeks preceding Art Basel, Recetas Urbanas, led by architect Santiago Cirugeda, will work with local and international volunteers to design and build a multipurpose civic structure, from locally sourced and second-hand materials. Participants will be invited to learn from and teach each other in a collective exchange and collaborative experience. During its construction and upon completion, the civic structure will be open to the public and activated by programs and performances. Following the closing of the 2018 edition of Art Basel, the structure will be relocated and given to one of the local organizations that participated in its construction, extending the significance and utility of the project long after the show concludes.

During the week of the fair, Lara Almarcegui will orchestrate a large-scale installation of gravel deposits from an active quarry that will surround the civic structure. Growing daily in increments equivalent to the gravel extracted from a Basel quarry each day, the workserves as an invitation to reflect on the consequences of our extractive relationship to the land. In conjunction, Almarcegui will create a map of Basel’s abandoned quarries, connecting these wastelands now awaiting a new function.

Isabel Lewis has conceived a series of workshops and occasions engaging the public through new modes of participation, inviting us to rethink notions of self and community. The work facilitates spaces for experimentation and play, where members of the public determine their own trajectories and level of engagement. The public workshops will take place on the Messeplatz in tandem with Recetas Urbanas’ building process, and continue through the week of the fair. What evolves from these workshops will form the foundation of a large-scale public choreography that highlights centuries-old, living traditions specific to Basel and generate encounters between historical practices and contemporary forms of bodily engagement.

‘Basilea’ is a Creative Time project commissioned by Art Basel and will be on display on Messeplatz from May 23 to June 17, 2018.

'Basilea' Opening hours May 23 – June 17, 2018, 10am to 8pm  ‘Basilea’ is free and open to the public

About Lara Almarcegui
A champion of neglected and forgotten sites, Lara Almarcegui’s work carefully catalogues and highlights a particular location's tendency towards entropy. Working at a time of widespread urban renewal in Europe, Almarcegui reflects upon the continent’s builthistories and extractive relationship with the land, and has even worked towards these sites’ legal protection. As Spain’s representative to the 55th Venice Biennial, she filled the interior of the pavilion with massive piles of building rubble similar to those used during its construction. Almarcegui has exhibited internationally, including at the Barbican Centre, London (2009); Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2015); Athens Biennale (2009); Gwangju Biennale (2008); Sharjah Biennial (2007); São Paulo Biennial (2006); Seville Biennial (2006); Liverpool Biennial (2004); La Biennale de Lyon (2017); Manifesta IX, Genk (2012); and TRACK, Gent (2012). Almarcegui lives and works in Rotterdam, Netherlands and is represented by mor charpentier in Paris, Ellen de Bruijne Projects in Amsterdam and Parra & Romero in Madrid and Ibiza.

About Isabel Lewis
Trained in literary criticism, dance and philosophy, Isabelle Lewis’ work takes on many different formats: from lecture-performances and workshops to music sessions, parties, installations and what she calls ‘hosted occasions’. She has created works around topics such as open source technology and dance improvisation, social dances as cultural storage systems, collaborative creative formats, future bodily techniques and rapping as embodied speech acts. Her work has been presented at Tate Modern London (2017); Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève (2014); Ming Contemporary Art Museum Shanghai (2016 – 2017); Liverpool Biennial (2014); Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (2015); Frieze London (2014); Tanz Im August Berlin (2015); Kunsthalle Basel (2014); Serpentine Galleries (2012); Dia Art Foundation, New York (2016); and Palais de Tokyo Paris (2016). Lewis is currently based in Berlin and was born in the Dominican Republic and raised on a man-made island off the coast of southwest Florida.

Since its founding in 2003, Recetas Urbanas has worked with over 2,500 individuals internationally, of different social backgrounds, abilities and ages. The collective has undertaken projects around the world at cultural spaces including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Castellon de la Plana, Spain (2005); the Venice International Architecture Biennale (2016); Göteborg  International Biennial for Contemporary Art; and La Carpa, Seville (2010 – 2014).

BMW Art Journey 2018

CS

Jamal Cyrus selected for next BMW Art Journey.
Houston–based artist to explore the notion of the Afro-Atlantic.

Munich/Basel. Art Basel and BMW are delighted to present Jamal Cyrus as the next BMW Art Journey winner. The international jury selected him unanimously from a shortlist of three artists whose works were exhibited in the Positions sector at last year’s Art Basel show in Miami Beach. Jamal Cyrus is represented by Inman Gallery, Houston.

The notion of the Afro-Atlantic provides the conceptual underpinning for Jamal Cyrus’ journey. It is, in his own words, “an intercontinental and multinational geography describing the circulation of ideas between Africa, Europe, and the Americas.” Inspired in part by Paul Gilroy’s writings from the early 1990s, Cyrus aims to examine the many diverse cultural hybrids that have emerged through protracted interaction between the continents. Such cultural hybrids – molded by forces of conquest, colonization, slavery, industry, migration, and philosophy – can be apprehended in the cultural centers Cyrus plans to visit. These include among others the Elmina Castle in Accra, Ghana; the Theatre Champs-Elysees, in Paris, France; Brixton's Electric Avenue, in, London, England; the Alhambra in Granada, Spain; and Congo Square, in New Orleans, United States.

At each location, Cyrus will record interviews with artists, musicians, historians, and philosophers who engage with the creative traditions of the Afro-Atlantic. "The journey promises to be a transformational process involving travel, dialogue, collective imagination, and intuitive response that will allow new ideas to surface in my work”, said Cyrus.

Art Basel and BMW will collaborate with the artist to document the journey and share it with a broader public through print publications, online and social media.

The international experts awarding Jamal Cyrus’ journey proposal were Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director, New Museum, New York City; Gabi Ngcobo, Curator, Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Victoria Noorthoorn, Director, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires; Philip Tinari, Director, Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, Beijing; and Susanne Pfeffer, Director, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt.

“Jamal Cyrus' BMW Art Journey delineates an imaginary geography that transforms relations of power and imposed hierarchies,” the five-member jury stated after its unanimous decision. “His journey combines elements of directed research and open-ended discovery, all within a deeply considered theoretical framework. His project struck us as a profound and sincere search for an understanding of the self, through the artistic lens of an individual who never forgets his role as a teacher, and who therefore foresees the multiplying effect of his experience. Cyrus’ BMW Art Journey will expand and amplify a practice that has already brought much to the conversation around culture, history, and identity in the United States.”

In addition to Jamal Cyrus, the shortlisted artists from the Positions sector for emerging artists at Art Basel in Miami Beach included: A.K. Burns (represented by Callicoon Fine Arts, New York) and Mariela Scafati (represented by Isla Flotante, Buenos Aires).

Launched in 2015, the BMW Art Journey is a collaboration between Art Basel and BMW, created to recognize and support emerging artists worldwide. From 2018 onwards this unique award is open to artists who are exhibiting in the Discoveries sector during Art Basel in Hong Kong. A judging panel comprised of internationally renowned experts meet first to select a shortlist of three artists from the sector, who are then invited to submit proposals for a journey aimed to further develop their ideas and artistic work. The jury reconvenes to choose a winner from the three proposals.

Past winners of the BMW Art Journey include sound and performance artist Samson Young presented by a.m. Space, Hong Kong at Art Basel's Hong Kong show in 2015, who represented Hong Kong at the 2017 Venice Biennale; German video artists Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr presented by Galerie Max Mayer, Dusseldorf at Art Basel's Miami Beach show in 2015; British artist Abigail Reynolds presented by Rokeby, London at Art Basel's show in Hong Kong in 2016 as well as Max Hooper Schneider, presented by High Art, Paris at Art Basel's Miami Beach show in 2016 and Astha Butail who was recently announced as the fifth winner and is presented by GALLERYSKE, New Delhi, Bangalore.

The next selections for the BMW Art Journey will take place during Art Basel in Hong Kong on March 28, 5:30 PM at the BMW Lounge. The winner of the BMW Art Journey from the Hong Kong show will be announced in early summer 2018.

BMW is a global partner of Art Basel and has supported Art Basel’s three shows in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong for many years.
