Pensando a Art Basel Miami Beach

 A Miami si guarda già alla prossima edizione di Art Basel Miami Beach che accoglierà 285 gallerie di prim'ordine provenienti da 44 paesi e territori delle Americhe, Europa, Asia, Medio Oriente e Africa, riaffermando la sua posizione di principale fiera d'arte internazionale nelle Americhe.

Oltre due terzi delle gallerie partecipanti gestiscono spazi nelle Americhe, con una forte presenza negli Stati Uniti, in America Latina e nei Caraibi, a dimostrazione dell'impareggiabile coinvolgimento della fiera con le vivaci scene artistiche della regione.

Espandendo ulteriormente la presenza nazionale della fiera, gallerie provenienti da New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia e Greater Miami si uniscono a un elenco globale di importanti espositori di prima qualità, affermati ed emergenti provenienti da Regno Unito, Francia, Germania, Italia, Spagna, Corea del Sud, Hong Kong, Cina continentale, Giappone e oltre.

La mostra animerà la Greater Miami con una settimana di presentazioni di qualità museale, una programmazione pubblica dinamica e collaborazioni istituzionali e con partner di altissimo livello, riunendo artisti, gallerie, collezionisti, istituzioni, opinion leader provenienti da tutti i settori creativi e il pubblico più ampio.

Segnando un nuovo importante capitolo, gli Art Basel Awards, i primi riconoscimenti globali che celebrano l'eccellenza nel settore dell'arte contemporanea, debutteranno a Miami Beach. I vincitori della medaglia d'oro 2025 saranno svelati durante la serata ufficiale degli Art Basel Awards il 4 dicembre, presentata in collaborazione con BOSS.

Bridget Finn, Direttrice di Art Basel Miami Beach, ha dichiarato: "La forza e il calibro degli espositori di quest'anno riaffermano la centralità di Art Basel Miami Beach nell'ecosistema artistico globale. Il sistema dell'arte conclude il suo ciclo con l'evento di ArtBasel a Miami che oramai è diventato un punto di riferimento per tutti i collezionisti delle americhe. 

Art Basel La fiera è caratterizzata da diversi eventi tra cui la sezione Meridians, curato per la terza volta  da Magalí Arriola, Direttore del Museo Tamayo, Città del Messico, che presenterà 20 progetti su larga scala di artisti affermati ed emergenti

La sezione Kabinett con 29 gallerie che presenteranno installazioni appositamente curate all'interno dei loro stand, e poi ci sono le classiche Galleries, Positions, Nova, Survey ed Edition, che proporranno tante interessanti novità artistiche. 

I murales per il Super Bowl di Miami

A Miami arriva il Super Bowl LIV e si accendono anche le arti visive con una serie di fantastici murali realizzati nella città per un totale di 18 opere.

In questa iniziativa sono stati coinvolti alcuni noti street artist come Tristan Eaton, che ha disegnato anche i biglietti del Super Bowl Sunday, Dasic Fernandez, Kelly Graval, aka RISK, Joe Iurato e Kelsey Montague promossi dalla società immobiliare Goldman Properties.

Miami week art

Con la fine dell’anno arriva ArtBasel Miami Beach l’ultima grande occasione per trovare il giusto lavoro artistico per un regalo natalizio. 

Che c’è di più piacevole, a Dicembre, che stare sulle piacevoli coste della Florida in quella stupenda città Art Decò che è Miami, a cui si aggiunge la ricca messe di eventi artistici che contornano le diverse fiere di questi giorni. 

Al centro come sempre c’è ArtBasel Miami Beach a cui fanno corredo le diverse rassegne Liste Miami Beach, Design Miami, Prizm, Nada, Scope fino a PULSE Miami Beach e tante altre piccoli e curiose occasioni d’arte.

Fra le novità dell’anno c’è “Disruptions” una mostra, nell'ambito della partnership di Art Basel Cities con Buenos Aires, che presenterà una serie di sculture su larga scala di artisti argentini a Collins Park, Miami Beach. Basato sulla visione curatoriale di Diana Wechsler e Florencia Battiti, il parco ospiterà opere scultoree che esplorano i concetti di contesto e sito e il suo potenziale di interferire con la vita di tutti i giorni. Gli artisti partecipanti comprendono Matías Duville, Graciela Hasper, Marie Orensanz, Pablo Reinoso, Marcela Sinclair e Agustina Woodgate.

Loewe Foundation presenterà la quinta mostra nella sua serie Chance Encounters, che riunirà artisti di varie discipline in conversazioni inaspettate. Quest'anno l'artista britannico Hilary Lloyd presenterà un'importante installazione tessile, audio e video site specific che dialogherà con il monumentale granaio portoghese del 18 ° secolo installato permanentemente e ci sarà una scultura in ceramica di grandi dimensioni di Ewen Henderson.

Concludo con la segnalazione di Untitled che proporrà anche l’iniziativa Monuments press il Lummus Park.

Miami art week 2018

Mentre l’Europa è avvolta dall’arrivo dell’inverno a Miami si svolge una assolata edizione di Art Basel in Miami Beach nell’elegante Miami Beach Convention Center.

Come sempre ricco il programma degli eventi in contemporanea che affiancano l'evento top, come una nuovo stimolante edizione di Design Miami/ Pavilion, le ricercate Untitled Art, NADA Miami, MiamiBeach , Scope, Ink dedicata alla stampe e alle opere su carta e Pulse Miami Beach.

Facendo un rapido conto saranno presente più di 700 gallerie per un totale di oltre 4.500 opere artistiche proposte, una grande abbuffata!

Se poi non vi basta Oltre alla messe di fiere la città di Miami offre sempre un ricco programma con i tanti musei presenti come l’ ICA – Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, il rinnovato PAMM – Pérez Art Museum Miami, CDe La Cruz Collection , lo stimolante Lowe Art Museum o il particolare The Bass Museum of Art e il vasto Rubell Family Collection e l'impegnato NSU Art Museum. Da non perdere la mostra sui tappeti artistici italiani al Wolfsonian.  

BMW Art Journey 2018

Torna una nuova edizione del progetto BMW Art Journey che quest'anno vede la selezione dell'artista Jamal Cyrus,  realizzata con la collaborazione di ArtBasel, a Miami erano stati presentati i finalisti e ora a Hong Kong si svolgerà la mostra del selezionato.

Houston–based artist to explore the notion of the Afro-Atlantic.

Munich/Basel. Art Basel and BMW are delighted to present Jamal Cyrus as the next BMW Art Journey winner. The international jury selected him unanimously from a shortlist of three artists whose works were exhibited in the Positions sector at last year’s Art Basel show in Miami Beach. Jamal Cyrus is represented by Inman Gallery, Houston.

The notion of the Afro-Atlantic provides the conceptual underpinning for Jamal Cyrus’ journey. It is, in his own words, “an intercontinental and multinational geography describing the circulation of ideas between Africa, Europe, and the Americas.” Inspired in part by Paul Gilroy’s writings from the early 1990s, Cyrus aims to examine the many diverse cultural hybrids that have emerged through protracted interaction between the continents. Such cultural hybrids – molded by forces of conquest, colonization, slavery, industry, migration, and philosophy – can be apprehended in the cultural centers Cyrus plans to visit. These include among others the Elmina Castle in Accra, Ghana; the Theatre Champs-Elysees, in Paris, France; Brixton's Electric Avenue, in, London, England; the Alhambra in Granada, Spain; and Congo Square, in New Orleans, United States. 

At each location, Cyrus will record interviews with artists, musicians, historians, and philosophers who engage with the creative traditions of the Afro-Atlantic. "The journey promises to be a transformational process involving travel, dialogue, collective imagination, and intuitive response that will allow new ideas to surface in my work”, said Cyrus. 

Art Basel and BMW will collaborate with the artist to document the journey and share it with a broader public through print publications, online and social media.

The international experts awarding Jamal Cyrus’ journey proposal were Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director, New Museum, New York City; Gabi Ngcobo, Curator, Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Victoria Noorthoorn, Director, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires; Philip Tinari, Director, Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, Beijing; and Susanne Pfeffer, Director, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt. 

“Jamal Cyrus' BMW Art Journey delineates an imaginary geography that transforms relations of power and imposed hierarchies,” the five-member jury stated after its unanimous decision. “His journey combines elements of directed research and open-ended discovery, all within a deeply considered theoretical framework. His project struck us as a profound and sincere search for an understanding of the self, through the artistic lens of an individual who never forgets his role as a teacher, and who therefore foresees the multiplying effect of his experience. Cyrus’ BMW Art Journey will expand and amplify a practice that has already brought much to the conversation around culture, history, and identity in the United States.”

In addition to Jamal Cyrus, the shortlisted artists from the Positions sector for emerging artists at Art Basel in Miami Beach included: A.K. Burns (represented by Callicoon Fine Arts, New York) and Mariela Scafati (represented by Isla Flotante, Buenos Aires). 

Launched in 2015, the BMW Art Journey is a collaboration between Art Basel and BMW, created to recognize and support emerging artists worldwide. From 2018 onwards this unique award is open to artists who are exhibiting in the Discoveries sector during Art Basel in Hong Kong. A judging panel comprised of internationally renowned experts meet first to select a shortlist of three artists from the sector, who are then invited to submit proposals for a journey aimed to further develop their ideas and artistic work. The jury reconvenes to choose a winner from the three proposals. 

Past winners of the BMW Art Journey include sound and performance artist Samson Young presented by a.m. Space, Hong Kong at Art Basel's Hong Kong show in 2015, who represented Hong Kong at the 2017 Venice Biennale; German video artists Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr presented by Galerie Max Mayer, Dusseldorf at Art Basel's Miami Beach show in 2015; British artist Abigail Reynolds presented by Rokeby, London at Art Basel's show in Hong Kong in 2016 as well as Max Hooper Schneider, presented by High Art, Paris at Art Basel's Miami Beach show in 2016 and Astha Butail who was recently announced as the fifth winner and is presented by GALLERYSKE, New Delhi, Bangalore.

The next selections for the BMW Art Journey will take place during Art Basel in Hong Kong on March 28, 5:30 PM at the BMW Lounge. The winner of the BMW Art Journey from the Hong Kong show will be announced in early summer 2018.

Bass Museum

Fra i tanti eventi di queste giornate a Miami c'è il Bass Museum che riapre ampliando con un elegante rinnovamento ideato Arata Isozaki, evento speciale la grande mostra su Ugo Rondinone che propone  il progetto "Good evening beautiful blue" anche con i suoi famosi "pagliacci".

Spanning the entirety of the museum’s newly designed second floor, good evening beautiful blue by Ugo Rondinone is part of a major multi-institution retrospective comprising works that span three decades of the artist’s practice, from the late 1990s to the present. From poetic installations in public spaces to life-size drawings, Rondinone’s work balances on the edge of euphoria and detachment.

good evening beautiful blue begins with Rondinone’s clockwork for oracles II (2008). The multi-wall installation is comprised of 52-mirrored windows (one for each week in the year) set against a backdrop of whitewashed pages from a local newspaper. Visitors encounter their mirrored reflections, stopping momentarily to contemplate how their temporary presence in the room contrasts with the dated newsprint behind the windows, which becomes more distant throughout the duration of the exhibition. The subsequent gallery houses vocabulary of solitude (2014-2016), the centerpiece of the exhibition and the only work present in all venues of the retrospective. vocabulary of solitude is an installation of 45 life-size clown figures cast from 22 men and 23 women of various ages and ethnicities. The work takes inspiration from the artist’s reflection on his daily actions, where each figure is engaged in a different quotidian activity, such as sleeping, dreaming, remembering, showering and walking.

Marking its first appearance in the U.S. in nearly two decades, the final gallery presents an immersive six-channel video installation titled It’s late It’s late and the wind carries a faint sound as it moves through the trees. It could be anything. The jingling of little bells perhaps, or the tiny flickering out of tiny lives. I stroll down the sidewalk and close my eyes and open them and wait for my mind to go perfectly blank. Like a room no one has ever entered, a room without any doors or windows. A place where nothing happens. (1998). The entire room is given a blue tint by an illuminated ceiling, as projected slow-motion loops of six men and six women, alone in their frames, perform an unresolved gesture without acknowledging the viewer, like opening an apartment door, or floating (or sinking) in water. The final line of the work’s narrative title …A place where nothing happens. aptly describes the cyclical loop of movements performed by each figure, resulting in a thought provoking and introspective space. Together, the selection of works places the visitor in an arena of contemplation and introspection, confronted by installations that stimulate self-reflection.

Ugo Rondinone (b. 1964, Brunnen, Switzerland) is a mixed-media artist who lives and works in New York. ArtBasel Miami 2017

Con l'apertura ai vip si apre oggi una nuova edizione di ArtBasel Miami che già si annuncia come il grande evento di fine anno. 

Come sempre foltissimo e importante il giorno dei grandi collezionisti che già al mattino attendevano l'apertura. 

Le prime sensazioni sono molto positive, come sempre l'organizzazione svizzera è impeccabile e ben oliata.

ArtBasel Miami Beach

La settimana delle fiera d'arte a Miami Beach è alle porte giusto per proporre l’ultima occasione per trovare il giusto lavoro artistico per un pensiero natalizio.

Poter poi stare al caldo della costa della Florida in quella stupenda città di Miami è una occasione in più, un piacevole momento per godersi questi giorni di ricchi stimoli artistici e di un bel clima.

Come sempre è ArtBasel Miami Beach da centro di una variegata serie di proposte, che vanno da Liste, Miami Beach, Design Miami fino a PULSE Miami Beach.

Fra le tante proposte vediamo quella di Art Basel  dedicata al film con la selezione fatta da David Gryn, Director di Daata Editions e Artprojx, che hanno selezionato opere di Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Jen DeNike e Tin Ojeda. Ci sarà anche il film ‘Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat’ (2017), con la regia di Sara Driver proposto dal curatore Marian Masone.

Daniel Buren a Miami

Bortolami is pleased to announce the second iteration of Daniel Buren / Miami, a yearlong, evolving exhibition that marks the 50th anniversary of the artist’s iconic 8.7 cm stripe. The first iteration, a selection of Buren’s paintings from 1965 to present, explored the discovery and subsequent use of the readymade stripe. 

This second iteration consists of a new work in situ titled Passage aller-retour, a site-specific installation comprised of five porticos or gateways placed at regular intervals throughout the gallery, their striped sides punctuating the space. This “passage” terminates with a mirror of the same dimensions as the gates, creating a doubling effect. 

The artist considers the stripe a “visual tool”, which he uses to explore the relationship between art and the structures that frame it. Interventions and works in situ like Passage aller-retour re-contextualize the audience’s experience and perception of space. 

This works relates to his large body of architectural scale works that physically alter the audience’s environment and shifts our engagement with the world around us. This new programming initiative, which the gallery is calling Artist / City, is an experimental alternative for artists to show their work in American cities outside the standard five-week gallery show. Pairing an artist with a space in a different city for a year, we hope to set forth a progressive exhibition structure, expand our programming, and grow geographically without opening full-scale operations. The aim is to create a structure in which our artists can investigate their work without restriction. 

Daniel Buren (b. 1938) has been the subject of major museum exhibitions worldwide. His work is included in prestigious private and public collections internationally. Buren has exhibited in the Venice Biennale more than 10 times and was awarded the Golden Lion for his French Pavilion in 1986. In 2007, he received the Praemium Imperiale for Painting from Japan and was selected to exhibit at MONUMENTA 2012 at the Grand Palais in Paris. Currently, Buren is the subject of a major exhibition at BOZAR/Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Belgium. He has just completed two commissions for works in situ: a bombastic alteration of the exterior of the Vuitton Foundation in Paris, France; and a colorful re-design of the glass over-ground walkways at Hunter College in New York City.

Metaforms Art Basel Miami

Per l'edizione 2015 dell’evento di ArtBaselMiamiBeach, Nicholas Baume, Director e Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, ritornano per il suo terzo anno per curare la mostra 'Metaforms', con 27 opere ed installazioni site-specific, costellata da performance di artisti emergenti provenienti da oltre 11 paesi. Come sempre il progetto troverà spazio presso il Collins Park di Miami Beach, uno suggestivo spazio espositivo all'aperto.

L’iniziativa è prodotta, per il quinto anno consecutivo, in collaborazione con il Bass Museum of Art con lavori di Olaf Breuning, James Capper, Tony Cragg, Melvin Edwards, Sam Falls, Sylvie Fleury, Katharina Grosse, Matt Johnson, Jacob Kassay, Kris Martin, Rubén Ortiz Torres, Athena Papadopoulos, Ishmael Randall-Weeks, Sterling Ruby, Michael Sailstorfer, Tomás Saraceno, Tony Tasset, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Francisco Ugarte, Timm Ulrichs, Marianne Vitale, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Hank Willis Thomas, Robert Wilson, Yan Xing e Xiao Yu.

Presentato i giorni scorso ad Art Basel Miami BMW Art Journey è una nuova iniziativa globale dell'arte di BMW e Art Basel per offrire agli artisti l'opportunità di intraprendere un viaggio di scoperta creativa.

Come uno studio mobile, la BMW Art viaggio offrirà a degli artisti l'opportunità di intraprendere un'attività di ricerca, creare contatti e creare nuovi lavori.

Gli artisti saranno selezionati duranti Art Basel Miami Beach e Hong Kong.

Il progetto si avvierà nel 2015, ogni anno saranno assegnate due borse per artista.

La prima sarà data all'artista selezionato dal settore nuove proposte di Art Basel in Hong Kong, che si svolgerà a marzo 2015, sarà annunciato durante l'estate del 2015. La secondo all'artista selezionato dal settore nuove proposte di Art Basel Miami Beach, il prossimo dicembre 2015, e sarà annunciato nei primi mesi 2016.

I membri della giuria sono Richard Armstrong (Direttore del Museo Guggenheim, New York), Juan Gaitan (curatore con sede a Città del Messico), Massimiliano Gioni (Direttore Artistico New Museum, New York), Gabriele Horn (direttore KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlino) , Claire Hsu (Director Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong), Matthias Mühling (direttore Lenbachhaus, Monaco) e Victoria Noorthoorn (direttore, Museo de Arte Moderna, Buenos Aires).

 The BMW Art Journey is a new global art initiative by BMW and Art Basel offering artists an opportunity to undertake a journey of creative discovery. Like a mobile studio, the BMW Art Journey can take an artist almost anywhere in the world – to undertake research, make contacts, and envision and create new work.

Artists that are showing in Art Basel's sectors for emerging-artists in Miami Beach and Hong Kong are eligible for the BMW Art Journey. Starting 2015, it will be awarded twice a year to one artist at each location. Two international expert juries, one for Hong Kong and one for Miami Beach, will select a shortlist of three artists per sector and will invite them to submit proposals for a journey. One artist from each shortlist will get the chance to undertake the BMW Art Journey. The selected artist from the Discoveries sector of Art Basel's show in Hong Kong, which is taking place in March 2015, will be announced in the summer of 2015. The selected artist from the Positions sector of Art Basel in Miami Beach will be announced in early 2016.

Eccoci alla seconda giornata della contemporaneità a Miami fra le belle serate mondane e le tante fiere d’arte per il mondo dell’arte.

Ovviamente il centro è Miami Art Basel che propone la sua ricca messe di eventi, tra cui la trasformazione di Collins Park in uno spazio pubblico artistico con la curatela di Nicholas Baume, direttore di Public Art Fund, che ritorna per il secondo anno con 26 progetti di grandi dimensioni e installazioni site-specific con importanti ed emergenti artisti provenienti da 13 diversi paesi. L’evento è prodotto in collaborazione con il Bass Museum of Art.

Martedì sera si inizia con la Miami Art Week, dopo l’eleganza torinese di Artissima è la volta dell’assolate spiagge americana.

Ricchissima l’offerta di Art Basel Miami, il cuore delle giornate, che propone oltre alle rinomate gallerie internazionali il nuovo progetto Survey con uno sguardo alle forme artistiche già storicizzate, la sezione propone opere di Rosemarie Castoro, Ralston Crawford, Henry Darger, Lenora De Barros, Niki de Saint Phalle, Valie Export, Paul Feeley, Poul Gernes, Tetsuya Ishida, Alison Knowles, Andrei Monastyrski, Lydia Okumura, Gina Pane, Lotty Rosenfeld, Alfons Schilling, Marcel Storr, Michelle Stuart, Taller Torres-García and Alfredo Volpi.

Altra interessante proposta la riedizione dell’evento di Ryan McNamara “ME?M: ME?M: A Story Ballet About the Internet” che si svolgerà al Miami Grand Theater. Come sempre ricchissima la serie di talk, molto stimolanti gli allestimenti curiosa la sezione Art Basel’s Film con più di ottanta film/video d’artisti, da non perdere la rassegna Kabinett con mostre per artista solo curate da 27 gallerie partecipanti la fiera.

Segnalo anche la nuova mostra al Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) con le opere site specific di Nicole Cherubini, Mario Garcia Torres, Iman Issa, Shana Lutker, e Gary Simmons, astri nascenti dell’art system.

Untitled, spiaggia d'arte

Oggi a Miami inizia la grande settimana dell'arte contemporanea, una decine di fiera prenderanno forma, fra le più stimolanti sicuramente Untitled, situata, in un magnifico padiglione temporaneo progettato dallo studio di architettura K/R, sotto la direzione di John Keenen, sulla assolata spiaggia.

Si caratterizza per una selezione molto attenta sugli  artisti emergenti o in sviluppo, con una visione internazionale, particolarmente interessante la sezione progetti che quest'anno offrirà una varietà di opere fra cui quelle di Mauricio Ianes, Guillermo Mora, weR2 e Alejandro Puente.

A corredo dell'evento una serie di incontri e conferenze che si svilupperanno nei divesi giorni di apertura dell'evento.

Art Basel Miami

Ed eccoci alla fine dell’anno, qui la stagione invernale ci porta un cielo grigio e temperature sempre più fredde per cui via tutti al caldo sole delle coste della Florida per un’altra settimana di allegria e tantissima arte.

Come sempre sono tantissimi gli eventi di Art Basel e delle tantissimi fiere che avviano nei primi giorni di dicembre.

Fra le tante, sulla quieta spiaggia assolata, c’è Untitled che si inaugura il 1 Dicembre, poi sarà la volta Design Miami, Scope, Pulse, Ink, Miami Art Fair, Aqua, Select Fair, Contexte ovviamente il 3 l’appuntamento top del vernissage di Art Basel, dove fra i tanti progetti è attesissimo l'allestimento della galleria Galerie Gmurzynska di Zurigo che per i suoi 50 anni di attività ha chiamato il noto regista Baz Luhrmann.

Fra i tanti eventi che avvengono in città altro appuntente mondanissimo l'apertura del nuovo centro culturale Faena Forum, progettato da Rem Koolhaas.
