Prossimamente Art Basel

Eccovi alcune novità sulla prossima edizione di Art Basel, che si svolgerà dal 24 al 26 Settembre. 

Unlimited di Art Basel, curato per la prima volta da Giovanni Carmine, direttore della Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, presenterà 62 progetti su larga scala di artisti rinomati ed emergenti.

La dodicesima edizione di Parcours sarà ancora una volta curata da Samuel Leuenberger, fondatore dello spazio espositivo senza scopo di lucro SALTS a Birsfelden, in Svizzera, e presenterà 20 opere d'arte site-specific nel centro della città di Basilea.

Coinvolgendo i visitatori della fiera e i residenti della città nello spazio pubblico, Messeplatz presenterà due interventi artistici separati degli artisti Monster Chetwynd e Cecilia Bengolea.

Art Basel, il cui Lead Partner è UBS, si svolgerà presso Messe Basel dal 24 al 26 settembre 2021.

L'edizione 2021 di Art Basel presenterà 272 gallerie leader di tutto il mondo che presenteranno la più alta qualità di opere su tutti i media, dai capolavori rari e storici alle nuove opere delle voci artistiche emergenti di oggi. Oltre a mostrare arte eccezionale all'interno dei suoi settori Gallerie, Caratteristiche, Dichiarazioni ed Edizioni, la fiera presenterà anche 62 opere d'arte su larga scala in Unlimited; 20 progetti site specific nell'ambito di Parcours; due interventi performativi degli artisti Monster Chetwynd e Cecilia Bengolea; un ambizioso programma cinematografico; così come la famosa serie di conferenze della fiera, Conversations.

"La portata e l'ambizione di Unlimited e Parcours di quest'anno testimoniano la dedizione delle nostre gallerie partecipanti", ha affermato Marc Spiegler, direttore globale di Art Basel. "Stanno presentando audacemente progetti complessi, molti concepiti prima della pandemia, che ora assumono un nuovo significato".

Unlimited, la piattaforma unica di Art Basel per progetti su larga scala, offre alle gallerie l'opportunità di mostrare installazioni estese, sculture monumentali, vaste pitture murali, vaste serie fotografiche e proiezioni video che trascendono il tradizionale stand della fiera d'arte. Ancora una volta nel padiglione 1, Unlimited sarà curato per la prima volta da Giovanni Carmine, Direttore della Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.

La scultura di Carl Andre 'Mastaba' (1978) presentata da Konrad Fischer Galerie

il dipinto di grande formato 'Rollings (Salvage)' di Robert Rauschenberg (1984) presentato da Thaddaeus Ropac;

l'installazione di Urs Fischer 'Untitled (Bread House)' (2004-2006) presentata da Jeffrey Deitch;

L'opera dell'artista libanese Etel Adnan intitolata 'Le Soleil Toujours' (2020) presentata dalla Galleria Sfeir-Semler;

Il dipinto dell'artista della Guyana Frank Bowling "Il cerchio di Sansone con l'abito di Lila realizzato in Africa con tessuto cinese importato: e il resto" (2019) presentato da Hauser & Wirth 

'After Russell Lee: 1-60' (2016), una serie fotografica di Sherrie Levine presentata da David Zwirner;

"Repeating the Obvious" di Carrie Mae Weems (2019) presentato dalla Jack Shainman Gallery e dalla Galerie Barbara Thumm;

'Entrare nel linguaggio' (2019-2021), installazione tessile di Marion Baruch, realizzata appositamente per Unlimited 2021, presentata dalla Galerie Urs Meile; e

Il disegno fotografico di David Hockney 'Pictures at an Exhibition' (2018/2021) presentato da Gray ed esposto per la prima volta a Unlimited.

Giovanni Carmine ha dichiarato: "La pandemia ha amplificato il nostro bisogno di un impegno diretto con gli 'originali'. I nostri incontri con l'arte si sono intensificati: la nostra attenzione e la nostra voglia di confronto sono in aumento. In questo contesto, Unlimited si rivela il palcoscenico ideale per vivere queste sensazioni in uno spazio reale, per assaporarle, per rifletterci sopra.'

Un catalogo in edizione limitata, pubblicato da Hatje Cantz, accompagnerà Unlimited, inclusi testi descrittivi e immagini di ogni opera d'arte. Parcours

Parcours tornerà nella città di Basilea, con 20 installazioni e performance site-specific in tutto il centro della città. Ancora una volta curata da Samuel Leuenberger, fondatore dello spazio espositivo senza scopo di lucro SALTS a Birsfelden, in Svizzera, Parcours di quest'anno si svolgerà in spazi civici e privati, nonché in nuove sedi con il tema "Possiamo ritrovare la felicità insieme di nuovo?" . Alcuni dei tanti punti salienti includono:

• 12 dipinti di grandi dimensioni e performance di Claudia Comte presentati da

Gladstone Gallery e König Galerie allo Stadtcasino, Basilea;

• Una composizione a pavimento aperto di Jason Dodge al Kunstmuseum Basel

presentato dalla Galleria Franco Noero;

• Una passeggiata pubblica di Hamish Fulton dal titolo "Walking in Every Direction" su Basel's

Marktplatz presentato dalla Galerie Tschudi;

• 'Neopets', una scultura di grandi dimensioni di Bunny Rogers presentata da Société;

• "Mudmen", un'installazione site-specific di Augustas Serapinas presentata da

emalin; e

• Installazioni scultoree di Pedro Wirz alla Kunsthalle Basel presentate da

Galleria Nagel Draxler.

Samuel Leuenberger ha dichiarato: "Attraverso un focus sulla cura e la simpatia, questa edizione mira a coltivare punti in comune e pensiero alleato attraverso gli strati più invisibili, quelli di profondità amicizia e fiducia, dove i suoi partecipanti così come i visitatori possono trovare la loro giusta gioia in partecipando.'

Messeplatz

La Messeplatz di Basilea ospiterà due interventi site specific selezionati dalla fiera Curatori Unlimited e Parcours. Monster Chetwynd svilupperà un'installazione su larga scala e performance curata da Giovanni Carmine, mentre il curatore Parcours Samuel Leuenberger lavorerà con Cecilia Bengolea su una video installazione e performance allestita all'interno della fontana della Messeplatz. Sviluppato in modo indipendente, Bengolea e I progetti di Chetwynd cercheranno di coinvolgere i visitatori della fiera e i residenti della città in un'entusiasmante e dialoghi sorprendenti. Film

Proiettato allo Stadtkino Basel, il programma Film sarà curato per la prima volta dalla scrittrice e docente di Lisbona Filipa Ramos, co-fondatrice e curatrice di Vdrome. Inoltre, Marian Masone, curatrice cinematografica con sede a New York, ha selezionato due eccezionali ritratti cinematografici di artisti – 'Beyond the Visible – Hilma af Klint', diretto da Halina Dryschka, e 'Bill Traylor: Chaising Ghosts', diretto da Jeffrey Wolf – che sarà proiettato venerdì, 24 settembre e sabato 25 settembre 2021.

Conversazioni

Il programma Conversazioni offre al pubblico l'accesso a informazioni di prima mano sul

mondo dell'arte internazionale ed è programmato da Art Basel e dall'artista berlinese Julieta

Aranda. I panel si svolgeranno nell'auditorium del padiglione 1.0 e saranno caratterizzati da una dinamica gruppo di relatori, tra cui:

• Daniel Buren e Philippe Parreno, in conversazione con Hans Ulrich Obrist,

per il panel “Artists’ Influencers”; e

• Philip Ursprung, Professore di Storia dell'Arte e dell'Architettura, ETH Zürich, in conversazione con Catherine Nichols, curatrice e co-presidente di Beuys2021, per il pannello "Eredità di Beuys".

La rosa del BMW Art Journey 2020.

Oggi Art Basel e BMW hanno annunciato la rosa degli artisti 2020 del BMW Art Journey, un'iniziativa congiunta che riconosce e sostiene artisti emergenti in tutto il mondo. Come uno studio mobile, il BMW Art Journey può portare gli artisti quasi ovunque nel mondo a sviluppare nuove idee e immaginare nuovi progetti creativi.

Dato che lo spettacolo Art Basel di quest'anno a Hong Kong ha dovuto essere annullato a causa dello scoppio e della diffusione del nuovo coronavirus, Covid-19, la giuria ha condotto il suo processo di selezione online. Gli artisti e le loro gallerie sono stati invitati a presentare domande digitali, tra cui un breve video degli artisti che spiega il loro lavoro e processo. Per la prima volta, i partecipanti idonei includevano non solo artisti del settore Discoveries della mostra 2020, ma - più in generale - artisti presentati da gallerie partecipanti fondate meno di dieci anni fa. 

La giuria internazionale ha scelto la seguente lista ristretta:

Leelee Chan

Nato nel 1984; vive e lavora a Hong Kong; rappresentato da Capsule Shanghai.

Jes Fan

Nato nel 1990; vive e lavora a New York; rappresentato dalla Galleria vuota, Hong Kong.

Amy Lien e Enzo Camacho

Nato nel 1987 e nel 1985; vivere e lavorare a New York e Manila; rappresentato da 47 Canal, New York.

Gli artisti selezionati sono ora invitati a sviluppare la proposta per il loro viaggio ideale, con il vincitore che sarà annunciato nel giugno 2020.

Samson Young, artista e vincitore del primo BMW Art Journey

"Gli artisti selezionati sono uniti da un interesse comune per le pratiche guidate dalla ricerca che sono ben posizionate per beneficiare del supporto che la BMW Art Journey può fornire", ha osservato la giuria nella sua decisione unanime. "Pur offrendo prospettive che sono unicamente proprie, le visioni di questi artisti non sono vincolate da confini nazionali e culturali".

“Nella pratica collaborativa di Amy Lien e Enzo Camacho, la ricerca archivistica e antropologica giunge a terra installazioni che rendono visibili narrazioni urgenti, complesse e improbabili. La loro presentazione programmata per Art Basel a Hong Kong, basata su un murale religioso del pittore filippino-americano Alfonso Ossorio della metà del secolo, ci è sembrato uno dei progetti più sfaccettati e avvincenti del duo fino ad oggi. Jes Fan eccelle nel suo uso di materiali, come vetro, silicone e resina. Abbiamo apprezzato il suo esame del corpo a livello molecolare, esplorandone i limiti e inquadrando l'esistenza di un corpo biologico in una contemporaneità digitale. Ha anche sondato il concetto di alterità, mettendo in discussione categorie di razza, genere e identità ricevute. Nella densamente popolata città di Hong Kong, Leelee Chan apre spazi risonanti con le sue sculture, come se provenissero da una dimensione sconosciuta. I suoi oggetti eterei, dall'aspetto extraterrestre sono composti dai detriti della grande città. Come un'archeologa, assembla istantanee frammentate di una civiltà urbana. Allo stesso tempo, gli oggetti sembrano trascendere la comprensione umana dello spazio e del tempo ", afferma la giuria.

Sync di Bmw ad Art Basel 2019

Nei giorni di Art Basel, dal 13 al 16 Giugno, sarà realizzata una premiere di "SYNC", un'installazione creata dalla cooperazione con Daan Roosegaarde, ispirata alla BMW Vision iNEXT.

"SYNC" mostra e unisci la bellezza della connettività, un'installazione immersiva ispirata a BMW  Vision iNEXT che affronta l'impatto dell'uomo come centro design sullo spazio.

Basel. From June 13 to 16, 2019, Art Basel brings the international artworld together, showing a wide range of works by emerging and established artists, represented by 290 of the leading galleries worldwide. As a long-standing global partner of the shows in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong, BMW together with Studio Roosegaarde invites visitors to experience “SYNC” showing the beauty of connectivity- an immersive installation inspired by BMW Vision iNEXT addressing the impact of human-centred design on space.

“SYNC” – step into the future

The BMW Vision iNEXT symbolises a new era of driving pleasure by providing insights into the future of personal mobility, which revolves more than ever before around people, our emotions, needs and preferences. The vision vehicle is a harmonious balance between futuristic technology and modern living space. Providing revealing answers to the question: “What does a vehicle look like that no longer needs to be driven by a person but can be if desired?” The combination of completely novel interior design using shy-tech and autonomous driving, inspired Daan Roosegaarde to translate its core messages – interior design, interaction and connectivity between humans, vehicles and their surroundings in order to flawlessly navigate in cities – into “SYNC”.

“When I was a boy I never stayed inside, I always went outside. Playing in nature of the Netherlands, I was so used to personalizing and customizing the world around me; building tree-huts, looking at the flow of wandering ants, exploring new worlds” said artist Daan Roosegaarde. “For me this is the essence of design; to create landscapes to which you feel connected, with your mind, your body, with each other.”

“SYNC” is a combination of a flexible membrane, light and music. The soundscape was specially composed by the duo Tale Of Us (Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri). By stepping into the immersive installation each visitor creates through his physical presence a unique space shown by changing light. The more people experience the space, the more different it connects and transforms into a collective moment.

“Collaborations with designers and artists are a very valuable source of inspiration for me and my team.  The creative exchange with Daan Roosegaarde and his approach encouraged us to research and experiment new forms of interaction. SYNC is an emotional approach to the integration of high tech, which we have called ‘Shy-Tech’ in our BMW Vision iNEXT.” Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, about Studio Roosegaarde’s creative approach of transforming human-centred design into an art installation.

 “SYNC” not only demonstrates the individual impact on space; its goal is to illustrate how essential human interaction is for our sustainable future. The starting line for the design collaboration between Studio Roosegaarde and the BMW i Design team were inspiring dialogues about the opportunities and challenges of autonomous driving. The installation is open to public Thursday, June 13 – Saturday, June 15 starting 10 am until 8 pm as well as Sunday, June 16 starting 10 am until 6 pm at Voltahalle, Voltastraße 27, 4056 Basel.

The nominees are: Clarissa Tossin, represented by Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles, Lu Yang, represented by Société, Berlin, and Shen Xin, represented by MadeIn Gallery, Shanghai.

10 anni di Parcours Art Basel

Festeggia 10 anni ’iniziativa Parcours che Art Basel organizza nel centro urbano della città coinvolgendo tanti artisti e facendo scoprire stupendi angoli storici.

Quest’anno saranno 20 le opere selezionato e proposte nella grande area di Münsterplatz. Curato per il quarto anno è Samuel Leuenberger, fondatore di SALTS, lo spazio espositivo senza scopo di lucro a Birsfelden, in Svizzera.

Il progetto si intitola "The Impossibility of Being a Sculpture" con le opere di Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Paweł Althamer, Mathis Altmann, Pierre Bismuth, Jos de Gruyter e Harald Thys, Matias Faldbakken, Dan Graham, Laurent Grasso, Irena Haiduk, Camille Henrot, Caitlin Keogh, Germaine Kruip, Ad Minoliti, Antonio Obá, Reto Pulfer, Hassan Sharif, Ron Terada, Daniel Turner, Rinus Van de Velde e Cathy Wilkes.

Sostiene l’iniziativa MGM Resorts Art & Culture.

Art Basel prossimamente 50

Sono già passati 49 anni dalla prima edizione di Art Basel, che prese avvio nel 1970 con poche gallerie.

Per cui il prossimo anno saranno 50 e si festeggeranno con un grande progetto espositivo intercontinentale con tre importanti curatori internazionali, che selezioneranno un gruppo di artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo.

L’evento si svolgerà nelle tre sedi fieristiche di ArtBasel; per Basilea ci sarà Kasper König, a Hong Kong andrà a Christina Li e Miami a Hamza.

Reportage ArtBasel 2018

Giudizi mediocri per questa edizione di ArtBasel, che si conferma sicuramente una grande fiera, ma che sente anche il tempo. Molte le critiche per un'edizione noiosa, senza particolari stimoli, sicuramente tante opere, ma tutto alquanto già visto.

Che dire? non si può sempre cambiare e quando per anni si cambia molto, alla fine pare che non ci sia più possibilità di cambiamento. 

Per ora attendiamo la grande novità di ArtBasel a Buenos Aires, di cui vi avevo già scritto.

Ma ora eccovi alcuni scatti dalla fiera di Basilea.

Prossimamente Unlimited

La prossima edizione di Art Basel, che si svolgerà dal 14 al 17 Giugno, conferma il successo della sezione Unlimited con la presentazione di ben 71 opere prime di grande dimensione.

Anche l'edizione di quest'anno è curato Gianni Jetzer, al suo settimo mandato.

Fra i nomi più noti primeggiano: Matthew Barney, Yto Barrada, Daniel Buren, Horia Damian, Camille Henrot, Jenny Holzer, Mark Leckey, Lee Ufan, Inge Mahn, Lygia Pape, Jon Rafman, Michael Rakowitz, Nedko Solakov, Martine Syms, Barthélémy Toguo e Yu Hong.

Il mercato dell’arte fra luci e ombre

E’ uscito da alcuni giorni il report “The Art Market 2018” di Art Basel e UBS, della Arts Economics di Clare McAndrew, che evidenzia come dopo anni di crisi forse si sta uscendo visto il positivo aumento del 12% sul mercato dell’arte mondiale. Dato ripartito fra un 4% nelle vendite dirette, 27% nelle aste focalizzato soprattutto sul mercato statunitense, che torna la primo posto, seguito da Cina e Gran Bretagna.

Ma non è tutto così solare, perché poi si nota come le vendite dirette di basso valore, meno di 500mila dollari siano calati a favore di quelle con valori oltre i 50milioni, quasi sempre attraverso le aste.

Questo strano mercato, dove le banche avevano tentato di parteciparvi ma poi ne sono uscite rapidamente, continua ad essere un gioco poco trasparente e molto aleatorio.

Anche se continuano le sirene del successo le gallerie continuano a chiudere, poche aprono e la vita media di quelle aperte è sempre più breve.

L’unica reale  crescita è il mercato online, dove però vengo proposti pezzi e valori molto diversi da quelli enfatizzati da un certo sistema.

HG Art Basel Film

Con 59 film e opere video Art Basel Hong Kong festeggia la sua quinta edizione. Curato dall'artista multimediale e produttore cinematografico Li Zhenhua che proporrà anche un Videotage, organizzazione no-profit di Hong Kong. 

Film: Art Basel announces details of its 2018 Film program in Hong Kong Celebrating its fifth edition in Hong Kong, Art Basel will present an ambitious program of 59 film and video works. Multi-media artist and film producer Li Zhenhua, who has been curating the sector since its  inception, has brought together a premier selection of film and video works inspired by the current sociopolitical climate, presented by galleries participating in the fair. As part of the Film program, Art Basel is also collaborating with Videotage, a non-profit organization from Hong Kong specializing in video and new media, to present video works by Nam June Paik as well as by artists from Hong Kong and Mainland China influenced by Paik's work. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from Thursday, March 29 to Saturday, March 31, 2018.

Alongside a selection of short films, this year's sector includes seven special screenings, completing a program of 59 works by 67 artists, represented by 38 galleries. ‘Days Gone By – Yu Hong’ (2009) by Wang Xiaoshuai (b. 1966) will open the special screenings program on Wednesday, March 28, depicting the life and work of Yu Hong, a female contemporary Chinese artist. The film not only portrays the life of an individual artist, but also encapsulates the rise of the Chinese art scene during a drastically changing era. 

Fusing traditional woodcut techniques with a 3D visual experience, ‘Time Spy’ (2016) by Sun Xun (b. 1980) will be screened on Thursday, March 29. On Friday, March 30, ‘Deep Gold’ (2013-14) by Julian Rosefeldt (b. 1965) and ‘Mrs. Fang’ (2017) by Wang Bing (b. 1967) will be screened. Awarded the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2017, ‘Mrs. Fang’ is a documentary that depicts the last stages of a farm worker's life who has been suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. Additionally, Art Basel is collaborating with Videotage on a special program highlighting the Hong Kong-based not-for-profit's ongoing endeavors and contributions to new-media art from Asia. ‘The Future Is in the Past’ revisits the video art collections initiated by Videotage and the Nam June Paik Art Center in two parts. ‘Imagined Future’ will showcase works by Nam June Paik (b. 1932 – d. 2006) alongside early Hong Kong video works inspired by Paik. The screening will be followed by ‘Imaginaries Beyond the Past’, presenting a new generation of young Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong artists working with video and the moving image. All seven special screenings will be presented at Theatre 2 at the HKCEC.

Exploring seven diverse themes, the short film program will be screened at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Cinema from Wednesday, March 28 to Saturday, March 31. Wednesday to Friday's short film program will rerun at the HKCEC at 6:30pm on the respective day. Highlights include: ‘The War That Never Was’, a selection of short films by Edgardo Aragón (b. 1985), Bae Yoon Hwan (b. 1983), Chien-Chi Chang (b. 1961), and Sutthirat Supaparinya (b. 1973); ‘Looking For Mushrooms’, presenting Bruce Conner's (b. 1933 – d. 2008) 1967 classic by the same name as well as work by Chen Xi (b. 1985), Fang Lu (b. 1981), Omer Fast (b. 1972), Lei Lei (b. 1985), Thomas Sauvin (b. 1983), and Philipp Timischl (b. 1989); ‘A Sense of Warmth’ incorporating 10 films  exploring social  relationships by Nevin Aladağ (b. 1972), Sven Johne (b. 1976), Laure Prouvost (b. 1978) and  Charwei Tsai (b. 1980) among others; and ‘How Happy a Thing Can Be’, featuring video works that investigate how physical objects and situations can determine an emotion and instill beliefs. Taking its title from Cécile B. Evans' (b. 1983) video work, the screening also includes works by Anna Maria Maiolino (b. 1942) and Yuan Keru (b. 1990) among others.

Art Basel's Film program is free and open to the public. Due to limited capacity, seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. At 4pm on Saturday, March 30, Film curator Li Zhenhua will be in conversation with Isaac Leung, Chairman, Videotage; Jan Cho, Managing Director, TBWA\ Hong Kong; and Sang Ae Park, Archivist, Nam June Paik Art Centre to discuss 'Social Content in the Age of Digital Distribution'. The talk is free to the public and will take place in the Art Basel Auditorium at the HKCEC. 

ArtBasel Miami Beach

La settimana delle fiera d'arte a Miami Beach è alle porte giusto per proporre l’ultima occasione per trovare il giusto lavoro artistico per un pensiero natalizio.

Poter poi stare al caldo della costa della Florida in quella stupenda città di Miami è una occasione in più, un piacevole momento per godersi questi giorni di ricchi stimoli artistici e di un bel clima.

Come sempre è ArtBasel Miami Beach da centro di una variegata serie di proposte, che vanno da Liste, Miami Beach, Design Miami fino a PULSE Miami Beach.

Fra le tante proposte vediamo quella di Art Basel  dedicata al film con la selezione fatta da David Gryn, Director di Daata Editions e Artprojx, che hanno selezionato opere di Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Jen DeNike e Tin Ojeda. Ci sarà anche il film ‘Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat’ (2017), con la regia di Sara Driver proposto dal curatore Marian Masone.

Art Basel in Hong Kong’s widely acclaimed Encounters sector – a unique platform dedicated to presenting large-scale sculptural installations that transcend the traditional art fair booth – returns this year with 17 projects by internationally renowned artists. Curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Artspace in Sydney, the 2017 edition will feature work by Pio Abad, Rasheed Araeen, Katharina Grosse, Gonkar Gyatso, Joyce Ho, Hu Qingyan, Bingyi, Waqas Khan, Kimsooja, Alicja Kwade, Dinh Q. Lê, Li Jinghu, Sanné Mestrom, Michael Parekowhai, Shen Shaomin, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Wang Wei. The show, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 23 to March 25, 2017.  

In this year’s edition of Encounters, curator Alexie Glass-Kantor explores the role time plays in an ‘encounter’, investigating the representation of time in art and how we use history, politics and culture to carve our own space in time. ‘For my third year curating the sector,’ Glass-Kantor explains, ‘I was interested in exploring the relationship between time and experience, specifically, how time is related to ’encounters.’ Glass-Kantor continues, ‘I have curated a selection of installations that encourage visitors to interact with each piece, in order to find their own interpretations.’

The Encounters sector will include four site-specific works and 12 new works by Rasheed Araeen, Katharina Grosse, Gonkar Gyatso, Joyce Ho, Hu Qingyan, Waqas Khan, Alicja Kwade, Dinh Q. Lê, Li Jinghu, Sanné Mestrom, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Wang Wei.

Kabinett a Hong Kong

Visto il grande successo di Kabinett, un settore molto amato di Art Basel Miami Beach, sarà proposto il prossimo Marzo anche a Hong Kong. 

La prima edizione di Kabinett a Hong Kong Art Basel comprenderà 19 progetti curatoriali, che andranno dalle presentazioni di gruppo tematici a mostre personali, realizzata da espositori provenienti da Asia, Europa e Stati Uniti.

Art Basel's first Kabinett sector in Hong Kong to present 19 precisely curated exhibitions Kabinett, a much-loved sector of Art Basel’s Miami Beach show, will make its Hong Kong debut in March 2017. 

The first edition of Kabinett at Art Basel’s Hong Kong show will include 19 carefully curated projects, ranging from thematic group presentations to solo shows, presented by exhibitors from Asia, Europe and the United States. Artists to be showcased include Etel Adnan, Cao Yu, Christo, Piero Dorazio, Candida Höfer, Abbas Kiarostami, Kwon Young-Woo, Lee Kit, Yuko Mohri, OSGEMEOS, Bettina Pousttchi, Qiu Xiaofei, Sanyu, SHIMURAbros, Song Ta, Keiichi Tanaami, Wang Qingsong, Ming Wong and Heimo Zobernig. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 23-25, 2017. 

Several important historical works will be among the projects featured in the sector: Kukje Gallery / Tina Kim Gallery will present Dansaekhwa artist Kwon Young-Woo (b. 1926, d. 2013), who pioneered the avant-garde movement in Korea. The exhibition will showcase a collection of paintings, historical photographs, original letters, leaflets, interviews and catalogues. Nanzuka will feature Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami’s (b. 1936) early animations from the 1970s, consisting of collages, drawings and illustrations on a screen projector. Mazzoleni will present a solo exhibition of one of Italy’s leading abstract painters, Piero Dorazio (b. 1927, d. 2005), focused on his artistic output from the 1960s to the 1970s, and illustrating his shift from weave-like monochromes to a more geometric and rigid approach. Rossi & Rossi will present a solo show of photographs by Iranian artist and film director Abbas Kiarostami (b. 1940, d. 2016). Shot in Iran, the photographs from ‘Snow Series’ (2002) consider topics that celebrate a natural environment through a minimalist aesthetic. Ben Brown Fine Arts will present a series of smaller-scale, historical analogue photographs of libraries by German artist Candida Höfer (b. 1944), including a number of her most iconic photographed spaces. Galerie Gmurzynska’s presentation of ‘Christo: The Essential Ideas’ will showcase three extremely rare works dating from the 1960s by Bulgarian artist Christo (b. 1935). Tina Keng Gallery will present a selection of works on paper by Chinese artist Sanyu (b. 1901, d. 1966), which re-examine the historical context of art in Chinese modernism at the beginning of the 20th century. Tokyo Gallery + BTAP’s installation will showcase three ‘TRACE’ series works by cuttingedge Japanese artist duo SHIMURAbros (Yuka Shimura b. 1976 and Kentaro Shimura b. 1979), including an entirely new piece ‘TRACE-ROAD – ABBEY ROAD’ (2016), which reproduces a fragment of Abbey Road in London and measures 170cm wide. The brother and sister artist duo’s ‘TRACE’ series investigates image distortions and reproduction errors from Google Street View in actual size. Galerie Nagel Draxler will show a new body of paintings by Heimo Zobernig (b. 1958) that are inspired by Piet Mondrian’s ‘BoogieWoogie’ series. Galerie Lelong's Kabinett presentation will focus on a selection of works on paper and new paintings by Lebanese-American artist and writer Etel Adnan (b. 1925). The installation will include a work on paper that presents drawings and poetry together in the ‘leporello’ form, in which the paper is folded like an accordion. Vitamin Creative Space will dedicate their Kabinett to Singaporean artist Ming Wong (b. 1971). The presentation will give an overview of the artist’s long-term research on tracing the impact of early cinema on traditional Chinese opera. Lehmann Maupin will feature brand new paintings by São Paulo-based multimedia artist duo OSGEMEOS (Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, b. 1974). Since the early 1990s, the artists, who are identical twin brothers, have improvised together using visual language to create a variety of projects worldwide. The new works will show the duo’s signature bold and graphic gestures. Chinese artist Cao Yu’s (b. 1988) work, presented by Galerie Urs Meile, will focus on the human body, exploring the social and cultural implications of identity. Pace will present the work of Chinese artist Qiu Xiaofei (b. 1977), whose paintings have a murky, dreamlike quality that explores concepts of freedom. Project Fulfill Art Space will present ‘Urban Mining’ (2016) and ‘From A’ (2016) by Japanese artist Yuko Mohri (b. 1980), which are two of her most important works in recent years. The artist utilizes everyday objects and materials that reveal the essence of space and time. Massimo De Carlo will present ‘It Was a Cinema’ (2016), a video installation work that explores the relationship between fear and hate, by Hong Kong artist Lee Kit (b. 1978), as well as works on paper by the artist. Blindspot Gallery will screen Chinese artist Wang Qingsong’s (b. 1966) 5-minute video work ‘Happy Bed’ (2014), which was first presented at Museum Folkwang in Germany as part of ‘CHINA 8’ in 2015. Beijing Commune will introduce a calligraphy project by Chinese artist Song Ta (b. 1988), that includes text written with gel pen on post-it notes, fragments of paper and digital images of his writing displayed on a monitor. Buchmann Galerie will present two different ceramic series by German artist Bettina Pousttchi (b. 1971). The work explores the field of architecture and its social implications, combining the language of European architecture with that of the Middle East. Participation in the Kabinett sector in Hong Kong is open to all exhibitors that have been accepted into the Galleries sector of the fair. 

Art Basel per l’arte

In questi giorni l’iniziativa di crowdfunding, voluta da Art Basel, ha raggiunto il traguardo di 1 milione di dollari, così si potranno finanziare 37 progetti di arte non-profit in 16 paesi di tutto il mondo.

Il progetto è stato avviato nel 2014 e nel tempo ha raccolto il supporto di 6.700 sostenitori in tutto il mondo, che attraverso la vivace comunità Kickstarter on-line hanno finanziato l’iniziativa.

Un esempio molto intelligente per dare sostegno alla cultura artistica, rendendo tutti partecipi e disponibili a mettere in moto nuovi modi di dare respiro all’arte contemporanea.

I progetti che saranno finanziati, grazie all’appoggio di contributi provenienti da oltre 90 paesi, sono in Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, Italia, Messico, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Thailandia, Regno Unito, Stati Uniti e Vietnam.

Art Basel + Kickstarter

Sta avendo molto successo la recente iniziativa di Art Basel e Kickstarter, che  stanno collaborando  per dei progetti eccezionali. 

Questa nuova iniziativa presenterà progetti artistici, selezionati da una giuria della comunità globale di potenziali benefattori, tra cui il pubblico di Art Basel e la comunità di Kickstarter, che si sono impegnati oltre $ 1 miliardo per progetti creativi. 

L'obiettivo è quello di sostenere le organizzazioni di arti visive senza scopo di lucro, in un momento in cui i finanziamenti pubblici per le arti è stato diminuendo, condividendo le loro storie, generando contributi, e raggiungere un nuovo pubblico.

Presentato i giorni scorso ad Art Basel Miami BMW Art Journey è una nuova iniziativa globale dell'arte di BMW e Art Basel per offrire agli artisti l'opportunità di intraprendere un viaggio di scoperta creativa.

Come uno studio mobile, la BMW Art viaggio offrirà a degli artisti l'opportunità di intraprendere un'attività di ricerca, creare contatti e creare nuovi lavori.

Gli artisti saranno selezionati duranti Art Basel Miami Beach e Hong Kong.

Il progetto si avvierà nel 2015, ogni anno saranno assegnate due borse per artista.

La prima sarà data all'artista selezionato dal settore nuove proposte di Art Basel in Hong Kong, che si svolgerà a marzo 2015, sarà annunciato durante l'estate del 2015. La secondo all'artista selezionato dal settore nuove proposte di Art Basel Miami Beach, il prossimo dicembre 2015, e sarà annunciato nei primi mesi 2016.

 The BMW Art Journey is a new global art initiative by BMW and Art Basel offering artists an opportunity to undertake a journey of creative discovery. Like a mobile studio, the BMW Art Journey can take an artist almost anywhere in the world – to undertake research, make contacts, and envision and create new work.

Artists that are showing in Art Basel's sectors for emerging-artists in Miami Beach and Hong Kong are eligible for the BMW Art Journey. Starting 2015, it will be awarded twice a year to one artist at each location. Two international expert juries, one for Hong Kong and one for Miami Beach, will select a shortlist of three artists per sector and will invite them to submit proposals for a journey. One artist from each shortlist will get the chance to undertake the BMW Art Journey. The selected artist from the Discoveries sector of Art Basel's show in Hong Kong, which is taking place in March 2015, will be announced in the summer of 2015. The selected artist from the Positions sector of Art Basel in Miami Beach will be announced in early 2016.

The jury members include Richard Armstrong (Director Guggenheim Museum, New York), Juan Gaítan (curator based in Mexico City), Massimiliano Gioni (Artistic Director New Museum, New York City), Gabriele Horn (Director KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin), Claire Hsu (Director Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong), Matthias Mühling (Director Lenbachhaus, Munich) and Victoria Noorthoorn (Director, Museu de Arte Moderna, Buenos Aires).
