Progetto Diogene in collaborazione con la Galleria Oggetti Specifici, presenta The Unseen_2020
Nato nel 2017 e ora alla sua seconda edizione, The Unseen indaga e rende visibile il lavoro di ricerca e produzione di conoscenza che è insito nell’operare di ogni artista: il nucleo creativo che resta nascosto, sommerso e nel contempo vitale, fondamentale per ciò che emerge come opera.
Focalizzandosi sulla ricerca artistica come struttura portante del fare arte, The Unseen affianca ciascun artista invitato nell’esplorazione del proprio humus creativo - fatto di letture, immagini, oggetti personali, esperienze, posizioni - attivando uno scambio nel quale vive la sperimentazione, intesa come combinazione imprevista di situazioni, metodi, domande, tentativi, umori.
L’edizione 2020 si apre alla collaborazione con Oggetti Specifici, il progetto-galleria fondato nel 2019 da Caterina Filippini con l’intento affine di investigare e condividere con il pubblico gli oggetti che appartengono, nel quotidiano, alla fase generativa dell’opera d’arte. Diogene si confronta con Oggetti Specifici per creare interrogativi sulla questione del valore e preparazione dell’opera, tenendo conto non solo degli oggetti ma anche di tutti quegli stimoli del vivere - contingenze, apparizioni o esperienze - che concorrono comunque alla definizione del lavoro finito e difficilmente prendono corpo in qualcosa di materiale.
Per approfondire l’indagine sul rapporto tra processo e opera, traccia materiale e immateriale, l’edizione 2020 propone inoltre una selezione di artisti che concentrano la loro ricerca sull’azione, sulla performance, le cui opere finite sono dunque, a loro volta, per lo più immateriali. Che ruolo giocano gli oggetti nel loro processo creativo? è forse diverso dal ruolo che gli oggetti esercitano nel lavoro di chi produce opere materiali? In che modo si può condividere con un pubblico l’insieme di tracce materiali e immateriali portano alle opere finite? Sono solo alcune delle domande che hanno accompagnato i dialoghi del progetto The Unseen_2020 e che verranno condivise con il pubblico nel corso di tre giorni, dall’1 al 3 ottobre.

The Unseen_2020 inaugura in presenza di tutti gli artisti invitati. Luigi Coppola, Myriam Laplante e il duo Salvatore Iaconesi/Oriana Persico si confrontano in un racconto fatto di parole e cose che introduce gli eventi individuali che si terranno al Tram Diogene nei giorni seguenti.
La sala Atlas Room presso Combo ospiterà un display curato da Oggetti Specifici. Un’introduzione alla ricerca di ogni artista, una raccolta di tracce che forniscono indizi sul processo creativo che anima la loro ricerca, frammenti tangibili che rivelano tratti del percorso che conduce alla realizzazione dell’opera. Un cammino nascosto, intercalato da ripensamenti, errori apparenti, prove.

Durante la primavera e l’estate del 2020, i componenti dell’associazione Diogene e Caterina Filippini, hanno intrattenuto un dialogo a distanza con i quattro artisti selezionati per la nuova edizione del progetto The Unseen. Un confronto aperto tra colleghi, affiancati dall’approccio peculiare di Oggetti Specifici, durante il quale sono stati liberamente attraversati ricordi d’infanzia, ricostruzioni genealogiche e geografiche, passioni originarie e formazioni, approcci diversi alla ricerca ed alla produzione artistica, visioni personali sul ruolo dell’imprevisto, dell’errore e del fallimento, parentele e distanze, senso di responsabilità, disillusioni e molto altro.
Le giornate del 2 e 3 Ottobre completano questo dialogo in presenza degli artisti, invitati a spogliarsi dal rigido schema della “presentazione lavori”, per avventurarsi in un personale esporsi al pubblico ed interpretare ciò che per ognuno di essi è nutrimento del processo creativo.
In ottemperanza alle linee guida sul distanziamento sociale, è gradita una conferma di partecipazione agli eventi.

Born in 2017 and now at its second edition, “The Unseen” investigates and exposes the research and production of knowledge that is inherent in every artist’s work. The creative core that remains hidden, underground, and that is yet vital, essential for the final artistic outcome.
Focusing on artistic research as the foundation of art making, The Unseen follows every artist involved in exploring his/her creative breeding ground – made of books, pictures, personal objects – activating a space for experimenting with unpredictable situations, methods, questions, attempts.
The 2020 edition is open to the collaboration with Oggetti Specifici, the project-gallery founded in 2019 by Caterina Filippini with the analogous intent of investigating and sharing with a public the objects that belong, day by day, to the generative phase of artworks. Diogene has been engaging with Oggetti Specifici in a long term dialogue, to question the value and preparation of artworks, considering not only the objects involved but also all the life stimuli – such as the occurring of chance, visions, experiences – which contribute to shape the finished work and yet rarely take a material form.
In order to deepen the exploration on the relationship between process and product, material and immaterial traces, the 2020 edition presents a selection of artists that focus their research on live action and performance – whose finished work is not bound to any specific material form. What is the role of objects in their creative process? Is it a different role from the one at play in the work of artists that create material art pieces? How can one share with a public the set of material and immaterial traces that lead to a finished artwork? These are a few of the questions that have guided the dialogues of the project The Unseen_2020 and that will be shared with an audience over the course of three days, from October 1 st to October 3 rd .

An introduction to the research of every artist, a collection of traces that offer clues on the creative process that drives their research, tangible fragments revealing the marks of the trail that leads to the finished work. A hidden path interspersed with second thoughts, apparent mistakes and tryouts.

During the spring and summer of 2020, the members of Diogene and the founder of Oggetti Specifici have been engaging in a series of dialogues at a distance with the artists invited for the new edition of the project The Unseen : an open discussion among colleagues, complemented by the peculiar approach of Oggetti Specifici, about genealogies and geographies, early passions and education, different approaches to artistic research and production, personal visions about the role of chance, mistake and failure, kinship and distance, responsibility, disillusion and a lot more. The events of October 2 and 3 complete these dialogues in the presence of the artists. They are invited to let go of the rigid framework of the conventional presentation of their work and venture a new territory with the audience, to reveal what nourishes their own creative process.
