Red auction

I designer Jonathan Ive e Marc Newson hanno collaborato col musicista Bono degli U2 per realizzare una vendita di beneficenza, il prossimo 23 Novembre, con la casa d’aste Sotheby’s, per l’organizzare (RED), che si occupa del Fondo Globale per combattere l'Aids, la tubercolosi e la malaria.

Saranno posti in vendita diversi manufatti selezionati e personalizzati dai designer, quali una macchina fotografica Leica Digital, una scrivania prodotta da Neal Feay Studios, uno Steinway & Sons Parlor Grand Piano, una sella Hermès, o una Range Rover 2012  per un totale di quaranta manufatti, tutti esclusivi pezzi unici.

Era già stata realizzata un’asta simile nel 2008 che aveva raccolto oltre 35 milioni di euro, gli organizzatori sperano di fare altrettanto in questa nuova edizione. Per gli interessati l'intera collezione sarà in mostra pubblica a New York a partire 18 Novembre.

Da aste a gallerie...

Ho appena fatto un salto a questa mostra che pare il pandan di quella dell'ICA da Selfridges Hotel 1 Orchanrd Street.

Si tratta di  "When Britan Went Pop - British pop art: the early years" realizzata nei nuovi locali di Christie’s in New Bond Street 103 realizzata con la Galleria Custot, mentre ha aperto da pochi giorni lo spazio S/2 Gallery in George Street con opere di J.Beyus, realtà gestita da Sotheby’s.

Poi  nelle giornate dal 17 al 19 Ottobre presso le due case d'aste ci sono le Italian Sales.

In October 2013 Christie’s, in association with Waddington Custot Galleries, will stage When Britain Went Pop, an exhibition exploring the early revolutionary years of the British Pop Art movement, which will launch Christie's new gallery space in Mayfair. This is the first comprehensive exhibition of British Pop Art to be held in London. When Britain Went Pop aims to show how Pop Art began in Britain and how British artists like Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, David Hockney, Allen Jones and Patrick Caulfield irrevocably shifted the boundaries between popular culture and fine art, leaving a legacy both in Britain and abroad.

British Pop Art was last explored in depth in the UK in 1991 as part of the Royal Academy’s survey exhibition of International Pop Art. This exhibition seeks to bring a fresh engagement with an influential movement long celebrated by collectors and museums alike, but many of whose artists have been overlooked in recent years.

This October, Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the inauguration of S|2 London, a new and permanent gallery devoted to selling exhibitions of Contemporary Art in St. George Street, Mayfair. Housed in a David Kohn Architects-designed space, S|2 London will organise five exhibitions per year, curated by Sotheby’s specialists and guest curators. Opening this programme is Joseph Beuys Revealed, an exhibition of twelve early works on paper and an important sculpture from a single owner collection. Reuniting pieces from between 1947 and 1966, the period when Beuys established his international reputation, Joseph Beuys Revealed shows the foundational importance of drawing to his practice. A cohesive display of his defining subjects: animals, landscapes and the female figure, this exhibition manifests the complex philosophies underpinning the oeuvre of a towering figure in 20th-century art.

Sta suscitando molto interesse la notizia di una prossima apertura di una galleria per vendite private del gruppo Sotheby’s a Londra, che si avvierà nei giorni di Frieze, con una proposta di venti lavori su carta di Joseph Beuys, dal titolo “Joseph Beuys Revealed.” che si dovrebbe svolgere dal 10 Ottobre al 15 Novembre. Essa avrà sede nel quartiere di Mayfair. Esiste già una sede newyorchese che si chiama S | 2 nell'Upper Side di Manhattan

On 10th October we will open the doors to our stunning new Sǀ2 space in London. Located at number 31 St George Street (directly behind Sotheby’s) it is perfectly positioned within the heart of Mayfair. With Victoria Miro opening up this autumn and Eykyn Maclean already in situ, St George Street is quickly becoming a Mecca for galleries. Designed byDavid Kohn Architects, Sǀ2 will host five Contemporary selling exhibitions a year overseen by either Sotheby’s specialists or guest curators.

Sǀ2 has been in New York since 2011 and has already proved to be a resounding success. It’s an exhilarating prospect to bring Sǀ2 to London. New York to date has hosted 13 shows, and two pop-up exhibitions in Los Angeles and Hong Kong. They’ve covered artists fromBasquiat, Warhol and Calder to Yayoi Kusama and Sam Francis; invited curators such as Vito Schnabel, Josh Baer, Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Nicolai Frahm; and explored themes from Contemporary Chinese ink painting to Southern California Minimalism andBrazilian Contemporary art.

For our first show in London we are lucky enough to have secured an incredible group of works by Joseph Beuys, all are completely fresh to the market and from the same Private European Collection. As one of my favourite artists it is a rare opportunity to present such a wonderful group of works by Beuys whose work has rarely been seen in London since Anthony d’Offay closed his doors in 2001. On a personal level it also means a great deal to me; from growing up in Germany where his influence was omnipresent to lecturing on him atSotheby’s Institute and selling his works at auction he is an artist that has been ever present in my career in the art world and I have always wished that I had had the opportunity to meet him.

The Sǀ2 exhibition in London is entitled Joseph Beuys Revealed and reunites works that were primarily acquired from the legendary Galerie Alfred Schmela in Düsseldorf, which was at the centre of the German avant-garde. It hosted many of Beuys’ earliest exhibitions, including his career-defining performance How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare of 1965.

The twelve works on paper, complemented by an early bronze sculpture – the masterpieceBett, reveal the subjects that Beuys imagined most vividly: animals, landscapes and the female figure. They evocatively express the importance of drawing for Beuys during the crucial period from 1947 to 1966, underlining the complexity of this most revered artist.

Opening Sǀ2 in London is a response to a growing demand from our clients to transact outside the traditional sale seasons. Sotheby’s is a multi-faceted art business rather than simply an auction house. Innovations such as this underline the expertise, ambition and originality at Sotheby’s – and, crucially, the on-going excitement of being at the forefront of bringing great art to great collectors.

E ora tutti alle aste!

Oggi The Italians Sale da Christi’s e domani da Sotheby’s chi batterà i record, molti puntano su Giulio Paolini con Partitura (Orfeo) e Il Dinosauro Che Emerge, di Pino Pascali. 

Aste e fiere per tutte le tasche

  

In questi giorni sono state fissate le date delle vendite di arte moderna e contemporanea che Christie’s e Sotheby’s fanno a Londra, saranno l’11 e il 12 Ottobre, proprio nei giorni di apertura di Frieze e Frieze Master. Come sempre verranno presentante le opere  anche in un breve tour italiano che toccherà Roma, Torino e Milano alla fine di questo mese. Sempre a Londra Philips de Pury propone a fine mese un’interessante asta di design.

Sempre a fine mese ci sarà l’asta da Christie’s della collezione di Hélène Rochas, nota per la sua linea di profumi, una vasta collezione di opere che vanno da Kandinskij a Warhol. Sotheby’s rilancia sempre a Parigi con la collezione Marcel Brient.

Fra le altre novità una nuova fiera a Lione, The Wall Art Fair, che si svolgerà dal 27 al 30 Settembre, mentre qualche giorno prima ci sarà in Austria la Viennafair presso il Messe Wien, Hall A, Entrance A, sempre a Vienna Dorotheum conclude il mese di vendite con una proposta di Tappeti, tessuti e arazzi.

Vuoi un Raffaello? Disegno di Raffaello Sanzio in asta il prossimo 5 Dicembre

Sta suscitando molto interesse la prossima asta di arte classica, Old Masters, che Sotheby’s realizzerà a Londra il 5 Dicembre. L’attenzione è stata accesa dalla notizia che sarà posta in battuta d’asta un disegno a gesso nero di Raffaello Sanzio. Si tratta della “testa di un giovane apostolo” disegnata nel 1519, studio di piccole dimensioni, circa 40X30 cm. Era un lavoro preparatorio per una figura della “Trasfigurazione”, uno dei capolavori dell’artista urbinate, attualmente presente nella collezione dei Musei Vaticani a Roma. 

Questo disegno sarà proposto in asta con una serie di opere che provengono da una collezione inglese. Si segnalano anche due manoscritti miniati molto pregiati, realizzati nelle Fiandre nel XV secolo. Il lotto nel suo complesso dovrà toccare come offerta iniziale di base sui 20 milioni di sterline, di cui ben 10 stimate per il disegno dell’artista italiano. Ma sono in molto a supporre che questa potrebbe essere l’occasione per un nuovo record d’asta nell’ambito dei disegni antichi.

Un regalo da Urlo!

Volete fare un regalo da urlo, beh allora non perdetevi il prossimo 2 Maggio l'asta newyorkese di Sotheby's quando sarà battuta l'unica versione, delle quattro esistenti, in mano privata dell'Urlo di Edvard Munch. Per questo stupenda opera si suppone di superare gli 80 milioni di dollari.

Il pastello è di proprietà di un ricco norvegese che lo metterà in offerta giusto per festeggiare il prossimo anno i 150 anni di nascita del noto pittore.

L'opera sarà esposta il 13 Aprile nella sede Londinese e il 27 nella sede di New York prima di essere proposto in asta.

Fall or Frize - La fiera più allegra dell’arte contemporanea.

Un autunno particolarmente morbido ci avvia nei prossimi giorni alla nuova edizione di Frieze che si svolgerà dal 13 al 16 Ottobre a Regent Park sotto il solito elegante tendone ri-allestito per l’occasione dagli architetti Carmody Groarke . E mentre al coperto ci sono le opere più preziose, fuori, immerse nei bei giardini inglesi, trovano spazio la sezione delle grandi sculture.

Di corredo a questo momento prettamente fieristico, ci sono molti eventi che sono offerti al vasto pubblico internazionale presente. Tra i tanti vi consiglio Frame con le gallerie più giovani, i famosi incontri, ma ci si può svagare alla rassegna video (quest’anno ci saranno i lavori di John Bock, Daniel Buren, Adam Curtis, Alison Knowles e Taryn Simon) o nella sezione più sperimentale nello scoprire le commissioni agli artisti Bik Van der Pol, Pierre Huyghe, Christian Jankowski, Oliver Laric, LuckyPDF, Peles Empire, Laure Prouvost e Cara Tolmie. Intanto cresce l’attività per l’edizione newyorkese che si svolgerà il prossimo anno a Maggio.

Per l’occasione tutta la città di Londra propone rassegne e mostre di gran pregio, la più spettacolare è la presentazione del grande intervento di Tacita Dean, parte dell’iniziativa The Unilever Series, nella Turbine Hall della Tate Modern e vedere anche l'ampia retrospettiva su Gerhard Richter.

Parallelamente si sviluppano diversi altri eventi tra cui ricordiamo la presentazione di opere stampate al Whitechapel per sostenere iniziative artistiche e la fresca fiera alternativa di Sunday.

Anche quest’anno ci sarà la Maratona artistica organizzata da Hans Ulrich Obrist alla Serpentine Gallery, che affronterà il tema dell’arte in una visione naturalistica.

Da non dimenticare poi l’apertura del nuovo spazio della White Cube a Bermondsey e l’intervento di Grayson Perry al British Museum.

Fra i tanti momenti da non perdere le aste di Phillips de Pury, Sotheby’s, il 13 ci sarà 20th Century Italian Art, mentre da Christie’s il 14 si svolgerà “The Italian Sale”.
