Cold Current è un progetto di Manuel Portioli e Helene Førde che, con il supporto del Comune di Bergen e Billedkunsteres Vederlagsfond, dà vita a una serie di occasioni di scambio tra la scena artistica e culturale italiana e quella norvegese, presentando le nuove tendenze dell’arte contemporanea scandinava.
La galleria Opere Scelte di Torino ospita la quinta edizione del progetto, dopo le mostre Migration e Corpo Condiviso nel 2013, la collettiva a Reggio Emilia nel 2014, Heaven nel 2015 e Bologna nella primavera del 2018. Cold Current - Torino presenta i lavori degli artisti Kay Arne Kirkebø, Lasse Årikstad, Gabriel JohannKvendseth e Cato Løland, selezionati dalla galleria Opere Scelte fra i meritevoli artisti norvegesi proposti.
Le opere di Kay Arne Kirkebø (Bergen, 1979) sono disegni geometrici di linea minimalista. Nella serie in esposizione Everything Is Equally Close le parole chiave sono proprio sintetismo, precisione e regolarità unite però alla manualità. Attraverso l’uso della grafite nella pratica di Kirkebø il tempo dell’azione assume un ruolo importante caricando semplici forme di suggestioni mistiche.
Lasse Årikstad (Norvegia, 1983) attraverso diversi media quali pittura, scultura, collage e installazione, lavora sulla ricontestualizzazione e la trasformazione degli oggetti, nellapoesia della vita di tutti i giorni. Nelle sue opere la cultura pop si mescola, con un tocco di umorismo, a questioni più formali che riguardano il colore, la forma, la consistenza, i contrasti; tutti componenti significativi della sua ricerca.
La ricerca di Gabriel Johann Kvendseth (Karlsøy, 1984) combinauna vasta gamma di discipline, tra cui scultura, installazione e attività performative e partecipative. Attraverso il suo lavoro tenta di stravolgere il concetto comune di ritualità. E’ attratto dall’interazione tra artigianato e pratiche contemporanee, così con la serie pensata per la mostra, raccoglie e propone oggetti abbandonati, che riutilizza e li rende artefatti contemporanei primitivi, attraverso un processo di assemblaggio inconscio.
Cato Løland (Bergen, 1982) si concentra sull’esplorazione dellequalità intrinseche di materiali poco costosi come il cartone, i ritagli di tessuto e di diversi oggetti trovati per caso. Tra i suoi lavori Spiral, una grande tela sulla quale è intervenuto con ricami tessili e l’assemblaggio di oggetti comuni mediante la tecnica del collage e attraverso l’utilizzo sia di sostanze chimiche, sia naturali.

Cold Current is a project by Manuel Portioli and Helene Førde who, with the support of the municipality of Bergen and Billedkunsteres Vederlagsfond, create a series of opportunities of exchanges between the artistic and cultural Italian scene and the Norwegian one, by presenting the new trends of Scandinavian contemporary art.
Opere Scelte Gallery in Turin hosts the fifth edition of the project, after the exhibitions Migration and Corpo Condiviso in 2013, the group exhibition in Reggio Emilia in 2014, Heaven in 2015 and Bologna in spring of 2018. The works of Kay Arne Kirkebø (Bergen, 1979) are geometric drawings with a minimalist approach. In the series on display Everything Is Equally Close the key words are precisely syntheticism, rigor and regularity, combined with manual skills. Through the use of graphite in Kirkebø practice, the time of the action takes on an important role charging simple geometric forms with mystical suggestions.
Lasse Årikstad (Norway, 1983) through the use of various media such as painting sculpture, collage and installation, works on the recontextualisation and the transformation of objects, in the poetic of everyday life. In his works the pop culture is - with a hint of humour - combined with more formal questions regarding colour, form, consistence, contrasts; all substantial components of his career.
The research of Gabriel Johann Kvendseth (Karlsøy, 1984) combines several disciplines: sculpture, installation, performative and participative practices. Through his works he attempt to distort the common concept of rituality. He is attracted by the interaction between crafts and contemporary practices. In the series conceived for the exhibition, he collects and proposes abandoned objects, which with an unconscious process of assembly, he reuses and turns as contemporary primitive artefacts.
Cato Løland (Bergen, 1982) focuses himself on the search of the intrinsic qualities of inexpensive materials such as cardboard, remnant of textile and of various object found by chance. Among his works Spiral, a big canvas on which he intervenes with embroideries and the assembly of common objects by means of collage and through the use of both chemical and natural substances.
