Manifesta 14’s leading ambition is to strengthen the cultural networks of Kosovo, the biennial will create collaborative projects that reinforce the local cultural infrastructure. One of the manners in which Manifesta aims to do this is by creating, with and for the local community, a production space for art professionals in the heart of the city in the former Hivzi Sylejmani Library. At the end of June the first small-scale urban interventions built by Carlo Ratti Associati, the architectural bureau directing Manifesta 14’s urban vision, took place at the former Library, as well as at Prishtina’s most important post-industrial site known as the Brick Factory. Key figures from the capital’s cultural scene and Manifesta partners were invited to share their ideas about the transformation of the Brick Factory, signaling what they believe is meaningful, relevant, and needed for Prishtina. Kosovo is one of Europe’s most isolated countries, Manifesta’s main objectives are therefore to create a programme that places the local cultural community at the forefront, that strengthens Kosovar cultural policy, builds an international network for local practitioners, and most importantly showcases Kosovo’s cultural wealth and talent to a broad and diverse audience.
