Giovedì 18 aprile 2019, alle 18.30, Quartz Studio ha il piacere di inaugurare Everybody Knows, la prima mostra torinese di Yarisal & Kublitz, duo svizzero-danese formato da Ronnie Yarisal (1981, Ginevra) e Katja Kublitz (1978, Copenaghen). Gli artisti presentano per la prima volta una nuova serie di lavori intitolata Trump Cards, del 2019. “Viviamo nell’epoca della post-verità, caratterizzata da grande incertezza e spaesamento” dichiarano. “Le affermazioni del presidente americano Donald Trump, che manifestano un evidente disprezzo per la realtà oggettiva, sono l’emblema dei nostri tempi. In ogni mazzo di Tarocchi ci sono 22 Carte di Trump (o Arcani maggiori), che simboleggiano i temi fondamentali della vita. La lettura dei Tarocchi è una forma di divinazione, che letteralmente significa lavorare con il divino, cioè il nostro io più alto. Nelle Carte di Trump presentiamo una Bugia, un Fatto e una Visione. La prima è fonte di sdegno, il secondo serve a informare e la terza offre generosità, saggezza e bellezza come antidoti al fatalismo, la profonda analisi karmica di cui oggi c’è bisogno. Abbiamo scelto di accostare i Tarocchi alle menzogne del presidente Trump perché rappresentano la ricerca della saggezza interiore attraverso forze magiche e misteriose”.
Ronnie Yarisal (1981, Ginevra, Svizzera) e Katja Kublitz (1978, Copenaghen, Danimarca) sono un duo svizzero-danese noto per le sculture e le installazioni ironiche e sovversive. Si sono conosciuti al Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design di Londra nel 2001 e, dopo la laurea, si sono trasferiti a Berlino, dove vivono e lavorano. La loro attività è mossa da un approccio quasi antropologico. L’indagine di temi quali la fede, il mito, la lingua e i rituali è il tentativo di comprendere il complesso legame fra spiritualità e mondo materiale. Hanno esposto i loro lavori in mostre collettive e personali in numerose gallerie fra cui: Palais de Tokyo, Parigi, Francia e Maryland Art Place, Baltimora, USA (2018); Swiss Institute, Roma e Saatchi Gallery, London, UK (2017); Kunstpalais Erlangen, Germania (2016); Flux Laboratory, Ginevra, Svizzera (2013); Kunsthalle Galapagos, New York, USA (2010); Kunstverein Wiesbaden, Germania (2008); Exit Art, New York, USA (2007); Charlottenborg Museum of Art, Copenaghen, Danimarca (2005). Thursday, April 18, 2019, at 6:30 pm, Quartz Studio is pleased to present Everybody Knows, the first solo show in Turin by Yarisal & Kublitz, a Swiss-Danish duo of visual artists composed of Ronnie Yarisal (1981, Geneva, Switzerland) and Katja Kublitz (1978, Copenhagen, Denmark). The artists will present for the first time a new series of works called Trump Cards from 2019. We live in a post-truth era of great uncertainty and confusion — say the artists. U.S. President Donald Trump's statements are emblematic of our times with his obvious contempt for objective reality. In every deck of Tarot cards there are 22 cards known as 'Trump Cards' (or the Major Arcana) that reference life's key issues. Reading Tarot cards is a form of divination, which literally means working with the divine, or your higher self. In our Trump cards, we display a Lie, a Fact, and a Vision. The Lie is a trigger for outrage; the Fact serves to inform; and The Vision presents generosity, wisdom, and beauty as an antidote to fatalism — exactly the karmic overhaul we need at this moment. We choose to juxtapose Tarot cards with President Trump's lies because they symbolize the pursuit of inner wisdom through mysterious magical forces.
Ronnie Yarisal (1981, Geneva, Switzerland) and Katja Kublitz (1978, Copenhagen, Denmark) are a Swiss-Danish duo known for their humorous and subversive sculptures and installations. They met at Central Saint Martins in London in 2001 and, after graduating, they moved to Berlin where they currently live and work. Their practice is guided by a quasi-anthropological approach. They explore the themes of faith, myth, language, and ritual in the attempt to understand the complex connection between spirituality and the material world. They have participated in group and solo shows in several art centers including: Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France and Maryland Art Place, Baltimore, USA (2018); Swiss Institute, Rome and Saatchi Gallery, London, UK (2017); Kunstpalais Erlangen, Germany (2016); Flux Laboratory, Geneva, Switzerland (2013); Kunsthalle Galapagos, New York, USA (2010); Kunstverein Wiesbaden, Germany (2008); Exit Art, New York, USA (2007); and Charlottenborg Museum of Art, Copenhagen, Denmark (2005).
