Welcome to the third edition of The World Around Summit.
The World Around champions the most progressive, inspiring ideas and designs of our time. By holding a mirror to the best of our world, we hope to serve as a first draft of architectural history — an archive of contemporary learning and a resource for actionable change.
The World Around’s inaugural event took place in January 2020 — just weeks before the first wave of COVID-19 hit New York City. For our second summit in January 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, we produced an entirely online program as part of a residency at the Guggenheim Museum. This year’s Accra, Delhi, Edinburgh, London, and Santiago to speak for a live audience at the Guggenheim, while others walk and talk us through their projects remotely with the help of filmmakers from Beijing, Brasília, Milan, Osaka, Stockholm, Rosario, and Zurich.
We are proud to present this event in partnership with Guggenheim Museum and Het Nieuwe Instituut. I thank the Guggenheim’s Cyra Levenson, Deputy Director and Gail Engelberg Director of Education and Public Engagement, and Jennifer Yee, Director of Public Programs; the Guggenheim team; and Aric Chen, General and Artistic Director of Het Nieuwe Instituut and the whole HNI team who have all been instrumental in the design and creation of today's program.
