44th edition of FIAC, 19–22 October 2017
The International Art Fair announces the list of participating galleries
For its 44th edition from 19 to 22 October 2017 in Paris, FIAC will host a carefully balanced selection of leading international galleries in the iconic Grand Palais. FIAC consolidates the presence of major galleries working in the field of modern and contemporary art and confirms its support of the emerging generation, notably via the Lafayette Sector organized in partnership with our official sponsor, the Galeries Lafayette Group. Fresh, eclectic and edgy, this year’s selection is sure to attract wide-spread attention from connaisseurs and amateurs alike. Keen interest from exhibitors in all sectors of the market confirms Paris’s growing appeal. Increasingly FIAC appears as a must in the autumn calendar.
This year, FIAC will bring together exhibitors from 26 countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Egypt, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The largest contingent of exhibitors is French (over a quarter of those included) and European (over two thirds).
For this international event, the French selection includes widely respected specialists of modern art (Galerie 1900-2000, Applicat-Prazan, Le Minotaure, Natalie Seroussi, Galerie Zlotowski), authoritative contemporary galleries (Air de Paris, Art : Concept, Chantal Crousel, gb agency, Karsten Greve, Lelong, kamel mennour, Nathalie Obadia, Perrotin, Almine Rech, Thaddaeus Ropac, Daniel Templon, Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois, Jocelyn Wolff, etc.) and galleries renowned for their capacity to detect young talents such as Galerie Allen, Balice Hertling, Marcelle Alix or New Galerie, to name only a few.
The 2017 edition is characterized by the return of influential European galleries, both well-established and emerging such as ChertLüdde (Berlin); Peter Kilchmann (Zurich); Nogueras Blanchard (Madrid); Mezzanin (Geneva); and Vera Cortês Art Agency (Lisbon). Among the galleries participating for the first time this year: Imane Farès (Paris), LambdaLambdaLambda (Pristina), Maisterra Valbuena (Madrid, Lisbon), Waldburger Wouters (Brussels), and SCHLOSS (Oslo).
FIAC’s strength is likewise built on the long standing commitment of important European galleries, each of whom is recognized as a leader in their chosen field: Galerie Buchholz, Capitain Petzel, Sadie Coles HQ, Continua, Massimo De Carlo, Konrad Fisher, Bärbel Grässlin, Max Hetzler, Xavier Hufkens, Krinzinger, Lisson, Mai 36 Galerie, Victoria Miro, Jan Mot, Neu, neugerriemschneider, Eva Presenhuber, Esther Schipper, Sprüth Magers, Michael Werner, White Cube, Zeno X, as well as Isabella Bortolozzi, dépendance, Karma International, kaufmann repetto, König Galerie, Giò Marconi, Meyer Riegger, Neue Alte Brücke, Peres Projects, Plan B, Rodeo, ZERO… and their younger colleagues Lars Friedrich or Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler.
Over the last decade, the presence of North American galleries (Canada, United States, Mexico) has considerably increased and now represents more than 20% of the exhibitors including market giants such as 303 Gallery, Blum & Poe, Gavin Brown’s enterprise, Paula Cooper, Gagosian Gallery, Barbara Gladstone, Marian Goodman, Landau Fine Art, Lehmann Maupin, Metro Pictures, Nahmad Contemporary, Pace, Regen Projects, Skarstedt, Van de Weghe and David Zwirner. All have made FIAC a regular rendez-vous on their fair calendar, as has a new generation of galleries including Miguel Abreu, C L E A R I N G, Essex Street, House of Gaga, Labor, Overduin & Co, and Reena Spaulings Fine Art.
They will be joined this year by David Kordansky (Los Angeles) and Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art (New York). New arrivals also include David Lewis (New York), Karma (New York), Shane Campbell (Chicago), and Queer Thoughts (New York).
Confident in its French and European identity balanced by a strong North American contingent, the composition of FIAC also extends to South America (Mendes Wood DM from Brazil, Casas Riegner, Instituto de Visión from Colombia), Asia (Edouard Malingue from Hong Kong and Shanghai, Vitamin Creative Space from Guangzhou and Beijing, Hyundai, Kukje Gallery/Tina Kim Gallery, PKM Gallery from Seoul, Experimenter from Calcutta), the United Arab Emirates (Green Art Gallery, Dubai) and Egypt (Gypsum, Cairo), complemented by the insider vision of the African continent that we owe, for example, to In Situ Fabienne Leclerc (Paris) and Imane Farès (Paris).
General Sector
The General Sector presents galleries under the nave of the Grand Palais and upstairs in the Salon d’honneur, the Upper Galleries, and the Salon Jean Perrin (inaugurated in 2016).
The galleries included in the General Sector were selected by a panel of internationally renowned gallerists, representative of different fields of expertise, geographic zones, and generations: Olivier Antoine (Art : Concept, Paris), Gisela Capitain(Capitain Petzel, Berlin), Mark Dickenson (Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt), David Fleiss (Galerie 1900-2000, Paris), Solène Guillier (gb agency, Paris), Jan Mot (Jan Mot, Brussels), Emmanuel Perrotin (Galerie Perrotin, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo) and Christophe Van de Weghe (Van de Weghe, New York).

Lafayette Sector
The Lafayette Sector brings together ten emerging galleries, selected for the exemplary quality of their prospective programming and on the basis of a project specifically designed for FIAC presenting one or two young artists.
The galleries participating in the 2017 edition were selected from over a hundred applications, by a panel of experts comprising Daria de Beauvais (Curator, Palais de Tokyo, Paris), Mark Dickenson (Gallerist, Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt),Guillaume Houzé (Image and Sponsorship Director, Galeries Lafayette Group, Paris), François Quintin (Associate Director, Galeries Lafayette Corporate Foundation, Paris), Elisa R. Linn (Curator, km temporaer, Berlin) and Matt Williams (Curator, ICA, London).
For this edition, the ten galleries selected from eight countries (Colombia, Egypt, India, Kosovo, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States) clearly illustrate the energy and commitment of emerging international galleries: Bernhard(Zurich), Experimenter (Calcutta), Freedman Fitzpatrick (Los Angeles), Gypsum (Cairo), Instituto de Visión (Bogotá),joségarcía ,mx (Mexico City), LambdaLambdaLambda (Pristina), Queer Thoughts (New York), SCHLOSS (Oslo) andTruth and Consequences (Geneva).
On Site
Launched in 2016, On Site presents sculptures and installations in locations in and around the prestigious Petit Palais: the exhibition spaces, the garden, the esplanade, as well as the Avenue Winston Churchill which will be transformed into a pedestrian zone for the duration of FIAC. On Site is organized in collaboration with Christophe Leribault, (Director and curator of the Petit Palais) and Eva Wittocx (Senior Curator, M-Museum Leuven), associate curator for 2017. The list of participating galleries will be announced shortly.
Hors les Murs
FIAC reaffirms its strong cultural mission through the Hors Les Murs programme. A program of artworks - unrivalled in scope in the landscape of international art fairs - will be presented in emblematic Parisian sites: the Jardin des Tuileries, the Musée National Eugène Delacroix, and the Place Vendôme.
The selection committee for the Jardin des Tuileries, presided by Vincent Pomarède (Curator in Chief, Director of Mediation and Cultural Programming), includes curators from the Musée du Louvre together with Bernard Blistène (Director of the Centre Pompidou, Paris), and Jean de Loisy (President of the Palais de Tokyo, Paris). FIAC will also present the performance festival Parades for FIAC, as well as a series of conferences and screenings of artists’ films. The full programme will be announced soon.
