To coincide with the digital premier of their new collaborative artwork No One is an Island experimental art studio Random International and award-winning choreographer and director Wayne McGregor will discuss the ways in which automation and artificial intelligence are affecting society and the relationship between humans and technology. Speaking to humankind’s immediate past, present and future simultaneously the installation produced in partnership with Superblue and BMW i, premiered online in three chapters with the last one coming up in February and a live performance scheduled for later this year.
The piece comprises sculptural, performative and musical elements. Centrepiece is a sculpture that experiments with the minimal amount of information that is actually necessary for an animated form to be recognised as human. The interventions of the dancers of Studio Wayne McGregor scored by Chihei Hatakeyama add a performative dimension to the sculpture.
Inspired by Picasso's light drawings they create lines of light-capturing movement and electricity visually and re-creating elements from the core of BMW i. Conceptualised as a "Gesamtkunstwerk", No One is an Island is developed in an ongoing dialogue and exchange between artists, choreographer, Random International, Superblue and BMW i.
