PAD, settima edizione

Fra i tantissimi eventi della settimana artistica londinese vi segnalo PAD, una selezionata rassegna di arte e design nel cuore di Berkeley Square a Londra. 

Comunicato stampa: The 7th edition of PAD London will run from 16-20 October on Berkeley Square and will include 21 new participants across all disciplines, making a total of 60 exhibitors from 12 countries.

The top-tier contemporary design galleries to join the fair include SMO Gallery, Garrido Gallery, Galleria O., Galerie Kreo, BSL–Béatrice Saint-Laurent, Galerie Gosserez and Galerie Italienne. 20th Century design also expands with the participation of Galerie Matthieu Richard, Galerie Pascal Cuisinier and Galerie Dutko, while turn-of-the-century furniture will be represented by Didier Luttenbacher and Oscar Graf.

Ranging from Impressionist drawings to post-war abstract paintings, the selection of works presented by new modern art galleries Vertes, Galleria d'Arte Frediano Farsetti, Applicat Prazan and Jean-François Cazeau will be of rare quality and exceptional provenance.

This year is set to be the strongest yet for tribal art at PAD with the added participation of Bernard Dulon, whose collection of African art has attracted the attention of renowned institutions and museums worldwide. The field of antiquities will be introduced with David Ghezelbash and Gordian Weber Kunsthandel exhibiting a range of exceptional works from ancient Rome, Egypt and Greece. Japanese art and armour will also make a first-time appearance at PAD with expert gallery Jean-Christophe Charbonnier, adding to the fair’s diversity and originality.

Once again, luminaries from the worlds of design, art and fashion will come together at PAD to select the winners of the Moët Hennessy-PAD London Prize. The prestigious judging panel, chaired by Jasper Conran, and including architect Amanda Levete, designer Tom Dixon and Serpentine Gallery director Julia Peyton-Jones, will determine the winners in the award categories of: Best Contemporary Design, Best 20thC Decorative Art Work and Best Stand.

An innovative design project of MwangaBora solar lamps promises to be a major highlight at PAD this year. Created by renowned Kenyan engineer Evans Wadongo - named a CNN Hero in 2010 – the lamps will feature in an installation at the entrance of the fair conceived by fashion designer Reed Krakoff. The lamps will be sold to benefit Wadongo’s organisation Sustainable Development for All Kenya (SDFA-Kenya), a not-for-profit that creates opportunities for education, sustainable development and economic empowerment throughout Africa.

Another exciting addition will be 1 Picasso for 100 Euros – a fundraiser in which €100 raffle tickets will be made available for purchase during the fair for a chance to win Pablo Picasso’s gouache on paper L’Homme au Gibus, estimated by Sotheby’s at $1,000,000. Initiated by French journalist Péri Cochin and Olivier Picasso, the artist’s grandson, 1 Picasso for 100 Euros is organised by the International Association to Save Tyre, established to protect the UNESCO World Heritage site in Lebanon. The proceeds from the purchase of tickets will go to finance research and several preservation projects in the ancient Phoenician city.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. They provide clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help patients and their families cope with cancer and get the most out of life. At PAD, the charity will be selling raffle tickets for £10 for the chance to win a Piaggio scooter.

This year the Ruinart Champagne Bar and Restaurant at PAD London will be designed by Paris-based interior architect Charles Zana. Zana’s vision for the space, on the upper level of the marquee overlooking Berkeley Square, will incorporate a self-playing piano by Dutch designer Maarten Baas (from a 2013 collaboration with Maison Pleyel) and lighting by the Japanese design studio Nendo.

Amore e psiche sotto la madonnina..

Quest’anno ci saranno due opere ispirate dallo stesso soggetto “Amore e Psiche” visti da Antonio Canova e François Gérard, per la prima volta esposti insieme. 

L’evento inizierà il 1 Dicembre e durerà fino al 13 Gennaio 2013 a Palazzo Marino, in Piazza della Scala a Milano. 

L’esposizione straordinaria è dedicata ai capolavori concepiti da due tra i massimi esponenti del Neoclassicismo, ispirati al mito di Amore e Psiche, tratta dalle Metamorfosi di Apuleio del II sec d.C., e fonte di ispirazione nella letteratura e nell’arte, in particolare tra il Settecento e Ottocento, quando il mito vive una fase di intensa fortuna proprio perché molto vicino alla sensibilità Neoclassica e poi romantica. 

La scultura di Antonio Canova “Amore e Psiche stanti” del 1797 fissa i canoni estetici delle “sue divinità” ricche di dolcezza e di bellezza sensuale. Di un anno successivo è il dipinto “Psyché et l’Amour” di Francois Gérard, fortemente ispirato all’opera di Canova ma denso di un erotismo che gli assicurò un grande successo di pubblico. 

Protagonisti delle precedenti edizioni in partnership con il Museo del Louvre (di cui Eni è mécène exceptionel) sono stati i capolavori San Giovanni Battista di Leonardo da Vinci (2009), Donna allo specchio di Tiziano (2010), l’Adorazione dei pastori e il San Giuseppe falegname di Georges de La Tour (2011). 

L’innovativa formula proposta da Eni per una fruizione dell’arte basata sulla gratuità e su un ampio corredo di strumenti di approfondimento, attività ed eventi, ha trovato conferma della sua validità con l’apprezzamento degli oltre 210 mila visitatori dell’esposizione dello scorso anno. 

La mostra, curata da Valeria Merlini e Daniela Storti, è integrata sia da apparati didattici e supporti video, sia da un percorso digitale con un sito web –www.amoreepsicheamilano.it, un’app dedicata, video e approfondimenti su YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ e Foursquare e laboratori dedicati per le scuole elementari e medie. Il catalogo è pubblicato da Rubettino Editore e curato da Vincent Pomarède, Valeria Merlini e Daniela Storti. 

Amore e Psiche François Gérard

Rudolf Stingel a Venezia

Parte in anticipo l'organizzazione della mostra di Rudolf Stingel che si terrà a Palazzo Grassi la prossima primavera. 

Curata dall’artista stesso, con il coordinamento di Elena Geuna, la mostra si svilupperà su tutta la superficie espositiva del palazzo, coinvolgendo atrio, primo e secondo piano. Sarà la prima volta che l’intero spazio del museo viene dedicato a un unico artista. 

Rudolf Stingel, nato nel 1956, vive e lavora tra New York e Merano, sua città natale. La sua opera è stata al centro di mostre personali in molte istituzioni internazionali, tra cui la Secession a Vienna (2012), la Neue Nationalgalerie a Berlino (2010), il Museum of Contemporary Art a Chicago, il Whitney Museum of American Art a New York (2007), il Museum für moderne Kunst di Francoforte (2004) e il Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento (2001). Ha inoltre partecipato alla Biennale di Venezia nel 1993 e 2003. L’artista è anche stato presente nelle esposizioni “Where Are We Going?” (2006), “Sequence 1” (2007), “Mapping the Studio” (2009-10) e “Il mondo vi appartiene” (2011) a Palazzo Grassi. 

Il progetto si iscrive nel programma di monografie di grandi artisti contemporanei, inaugurato nell’aprile 2012 con Urs Fischer (“Madame Fisscher”), e presentato in alternanza e complementarietà alle esposizioni tematiche della collezione François Pinault Foundation. 

La mostra “Rudolf Stingel” rimarrà aperta a Palazzo Grassi fino al 31 dicembre 2013, nel corso di tutta la 55a Biennale di arte contemporanea, in occasione della quale sarà inaugurata, a partire dal 30 maggio 2013, una nuova esposizione anche a Punta della Dogana.
